Ownership change would limit hospital abortions (Two hospitals in Denver)
WorldNetDaily ^ | 12/29/07 | WorldNetDaily

The proposed sale that would transfer two Exempla Healthcare hospitals in the Denver metropolitan area to a Catholic organization that does not allow abortion and birth-control procedures at its facilities has been endorsed by Colorado Attorney General John Suthers.

The hospitals, Lutheran and Good Samaritan, soon could fall under the management of Catholic Health Care Services, which, among other things, does not provide abortions, forms of sterilization including tubal ligation and vasectomies, and emergency contraception pills, known as the abortion pill.

Suthers concluded in his legal opinion that the transfer wouldn't violate state laws concerning nonprofit groups, and that the incoming owner, Sisters of Charity Leavenworth Health System, of Lenexa, Kan., had the authority to change procedures at the hospitals, according to a Denver Post report.

"The General Assembly mandated that a single, narrow standard of review should apply in nonprofit to nonprofit hospital tranfers," he wrote. "I recognize the strong emotional and political concerns surrounding this transfer, but per the statute, those concerns cannot alter the legal standard of review."

Ed Kahn's organization, the Colorado Center of Law and Policy, has filed a lawsuit over the transfer, and said services such as the abortion pill "are services that are critical for people."

No, they aren't.

“Lutheran” Hospital providing abortions? Time for a new acronym: LINO—and it’s far dirtier than linoleum.

Free market. It’s not like the products and medical procedures aren’t available elsewhere.

“Lutheran” Hospital providing abortions?
******************************************
It’s a tragedy that so many “Christian” churches take lukewarm stances on abortion ,, maybe they think they will make their followers “uncomfortable” or maybe they just want to differentiate themselves from Catholics... It’s prime time for the pope to lean on his peers and take this head on... someone has to lead and this is a worldwide problem.

actually Lutheran hosp is no longer owned by the lutherans, but in reality the elca (largest body of lutherans) is quite liberal and in full communion with the episcopal church. There are a few branches of us Lutherans that still hold true to scripture like the LCMS (missouri synod), the wisconsin synod and a few others. But the majority are liberal and looney sorry to say (as a lutheran myself)

I don't know, it just strikes me as odd that so-called Christian hospitals even consider administering such procedures. As the society moves leftwards, I suppose it's only natural that a good many church bodies should follow suit.

I hate to be both in violation of cliche usage and punnery, but you're preaching to the choir, my friend.

Interesting. This is the first time I've ever heard mention--other than my own--of WELS/ELS on FR; that is, our synod and sister synod. Your assessment is entirely correct.

I could go on--and perhaps we should.

I've often lamented the '61 split between WELS and LCMS.

I figured that as a church body, we have around half a million--not a big number--and that I could possibly be the only WELS on FR, seeing as how LCMS and ELCA put together number in the millions! The self-proclaimed Champion of Circumstance, Jo Nuvark, was the first FReeper, in almost three years of posting, that has recognized my references to WELS/ELS.

I don't like the term "conservative" applied to the Church. Such a term is really more politically oriented than doctrinally focused. We are confessional evangelical Lutherans; heirs to the Reformation.

Sad to relate, the liberal branch of Lutheranism, the one that approves of lesbian clergy, some living openly with their “partner” in their congregation’s parsonage, also operates pro-abortion hospitals and in general endorses so-called abortion rights.

Colorado AG Suthers did the right thing in this matter.

Now if he will investigate the Planned Parenthood
cover up of statutory rapists.

His office told Colorado RTL there was nothing it could
do, when listening to audio tape of PP telling a 13 year old
girl to call back and not state the age of her baby’s over 21 year
old dad.

Come back: the mother church has NEVER wavered on this fundamental tenet, and is quite willing to receive her prodigals.

What I find truly confusing is the utter hostility shown by many Protestants when Catholicism is the topic. Isn’t protestantism simply a splinter sect of the church? Sure, some may claim that Papal Infallibility is worshipping a mere man as G_d, but that premise is WRONG!

Papal Infallibility refers to matters of CHURCH DOCTRINE, not the acts of the (undoubtedly human ergo fallible) MAN holding St. Peter’s office temporarily.
