Huckabee Sees Pakistan as Reason for Border Fence

DES MOINES — Mike Huckabee used the volatile situation in Pakistan Friday to make an argument for building a fence on the American border with Mexico and found himself trying to explain a series of remarks about Pakistanis and their nation.

“When I say single them out I am making the observation that we have more Pakistani illegals coming across our border than all other nationalities except those immediately south of the border,” he told reporters in Pella. “And in light of what is happening in Pakistan it ought to give us pause as to why are so many illegals coming across these borders.”

In fact, far more illegal immigrants come from the Philippines, Korea, China and Vietnam, according to recent estimates from the Department of Homeland Security.

Huckabee's lack of understanding of the world is dangerous.

If he’s going to attempt to grab an issue and make it his own, he better make sure he knows what he’s talking about.

At least he didn’t warn us that tigers were crossing the border.

“And in light of what is happening in Pakistan it ought to give us pause as to why are so many illegals coming across these borders.”

Not only ethnically insensitive,

but garbage since his “fence” is a waste of money,

since he supports mass amnesty with the “touch back” fig leaf.

“The fact is that the immigration issue is not so much about people coming to pick lettuce or make beds, it’s about someone coming with a shoulder-fired missile,” he said.

And there is Huck's campaign. He's found a way to look like he's tough on Pakistani illegal immigration (all 600 of them) while still pandering to the millions who come across our borders illegally every year.

Huckabee probably flunked Geography in Bible University. Of course the maps Huckabee studied probably looked similar to this.

He should also support deporting illegal aliens and being much more selective as to immigrants - none from enemy nations, none who are likely to end up on welfare, etc.

NOW the Huckster “notices” that Islamists are crossing our Southern Border? Perhaps they are even some of the people that he granted tuition breaks to as Gov. of AR!

That’s only because he thinks the U.S. borders Pakistan. The Mexican border he wants to leave wide open and place water jugs and sunscreen at rest stops along the way.

“When I say single them out I am making the observation that we have more Pakistani illegals coming across our border than all other nationalities except those immediately south of the border,” he told reporters in Pella.”

Wow. Huckster strikes again.

In recent days, Mike Huckabee has tried to answer long-standing questions about who is on his foreign policy team. On Friday morning, he listed former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as someone with whom he either has “spoken or will continue to speak.”

At a Thursday evening press conference, Huckabee said, “I’ve corresponded with John Bolton, who’s agreed to work with us on developing foreign policy.”

Bolton, however, has a different view. “I’d be happy to speak with Huckabee, but I haven’t spoken with him yet,” said Bolton, now a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank in Washington......

On Thursday, he commented on the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying the U.S. needs to consider “what impact does it have on whether or not there’s going to be martial law continuing in Pakistan.” Martial law, as it turns out, was lifted two weeks ago....

Huckabee also raised eyebrows Thursday when he said that Bhutto’s death should prompt “an immediate, very clear monitoring of our borders and particularly to make sure if there’s any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country.”

And earlier this month, Huckabee said he was unfamiliar with the National Intelligence Estimate reporting that Iran hadn’t had a program to develop nuclear weapons since 2003.......

Come on, AuntB! Admit it! You just oppose Huckabee because he is an Evangelical Christian.

Me, too - although how I’ve managed to be a Southern Baptist for nearly 40 years while hating evangelicals has me a bit confused...almost as confused as his positions on nearly everything.

Damn. His campaign is starting to implode on the eve of the Iowa Caucus just like Howard Dean's.

All we need is the scream...

"I'll tell you what... not only are we going to root out those Pakistanis in New Hampshire, we're going to do it in South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona...".
