Minnesota Atheists are taking their message to the air waves with a new radio program that will debut in January on the talk station Air America Minnesota.
Called "Atheists Talk" -- the same name as a show the organization airs on cable access television -- the live radio broadcast featuring news, interviews, listener call-ins and special guests is believed to be the first show of its kind in Minnesota, said August Berkshire, a spokesman for the Minnesota Atheists.
The show will air Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m. on AM 950 starting Jan. 13 when Oxford professor, evolutionary biologist and renowned atheist Richard Dawkins will be the featured guest. The weekly shows also will be streamed live on the radio station's website (www.airamericaminnesota.com/listen) and made available as a podcast at www.minnesotatheists.org/podcasts, Berkshire said.
Until now, Berkshire said the organization reached only a small and shrinking number of people who tuned into its public access cable TV show. He said the radio program will open the way to reach a larger audience.
"Fewer people are watching public access, but they are listening to talk radio," said Berkshire, who has been involved with the atheist movement locally since 1984. "We really want to expand our audience and this will allow us to reach people all over the state of Minnesota."

Broadcasting on Air America. The pathway to oblivion.
They don’t have a prayer.
And that's with all that Sorus money backing thier startup.
And that's why I have a hard time with these people. On the one hand, Christians are called upon to spread the gospel -- so Christians often approach people and say, "Let me share my beliefs with you. Let me tell you how wonderful Jesus has made my life."
Now, on the other hand, I suppose atheists can be evangelical too, and tell people about their beliefs. Nothing wrong with that. But can they say that atheism has made their lives wonderful? I don't think so. All they can really do is insult the foolish people believe in God.
Evangelical atheists are rude and boorish.
What do they talk about? Oh yeah, the evil Christians.
No surprise that the atheists are on a leftist station. (Communism is atheistic)
I hate Illinois nazis.
Can't wait to see the Arbitron ratings for this one.
Maybe they can channel Madalyn Murray O’Hair and she can tell them just how hot it REALLY is down there?
Wakka...wakkaa..wakka..
From their home page....
“Air America Minnesota was born of the inspiration and perspiration of our founders, Minnesota attorney Janet Robert, and former Minnesota Congressman Bill Luther, who were concerned that the public airwaves had become overtaken by a right-wing agenda.”
“The show will air Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m. on AM 950 starting
Jan. 13 when Oxford professor, evolutionary biologist and renowned
atheist Richard Dawkins will be the featured guest.”
Well, now Dawkins can get a microphone to rail about his other missionary
work: letting us know that Jews run everything.

(and yes, I’m posting this to let folks get “the rest of the story”
about Prof. Dawkins)
Isn’t that the station that uses a squirrel-powered transmitter?
And squirrel by-products......
And meanwhile, conservative-leaning WWTC (1280 AM) in the same area is doing well. Unless you have a really good host, liberal-leaning talk radio doesn’t do well.
LOL
Atheists are the only folk I know who spend a huge chunk of their time talking about something they don't believe in. How inspiring.
jw
Yes, 1280 does well in this market. But AAR gets all the press when something “earth shattering” like this happens.....
I’d listen, but I don’t believe in atheism.
Are there sponsors? Radio’s bottom line is sponsors, and I see this going absolutely no where, not to mention the listening audience must be so obscure, there are no ratings possible.
