Mitt Romney: Ronald Reagan in Sacred Underwear?
The Student Operated Press ^ | December 24, 2007 | John Lillpop

Posted on 12/26/2007 7:02:35 PM PST by TheLion

Bleeding-heart types looking for a "minority cause” for which to advocate in the 2008 presidential elections are torn between the candidacies of a woman, two African- Americans, a Hispanic and a former mayor of Cleveland who is more of a communist than Vladimir Putin.

Tough choices, those, and all of them Democrats.

In the interest of fairness, however, the name of Mitt Romney should be added to the shopping list of those searching for an oppressed minority to support.

As a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), Romney is aligned with one of the most persecuted and oppressed minorities in history. Even in these enlightened times, millions of Americans say they would not vote for the charismatic ex-governor of Massachusetts under any circumstances.

And, in an amazing demonstration of religious bigotry, a New Hampshire liberal rag, the Concord Monitor, used its Sunday editorial pages to tell readers why they should not vote for Mitt Romney.

This "anti-endorsement" is unprecedented, unfair, un-American and unwise.

Editors at the Concord Monitor even went so far as to warn readers that Romney must be stopped ". . . because he lacks the core philosophical beliefs to be a trustworthy president."

IHT: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/12/23/america/Romney-Anti-Endorsement.php

That particular bit of editorial malfeasance is a thinly-veiled assault on Romney's Mormon faith, pure and simple.

Fact of the matter is that Mitt Romney is the most conservative candidate running for the White House. He is also the most experienced and qualified, a fact attested to by his service as the governor of liberal-infested Massachusetts, and by his enormously successful personal finances.

Mitt Romney knows how to work with people from diverse political backgrounds, how to overcome discrimination and adversity, and he knows how to run a large organization. No other candidate comes close to matching his qualifications for taking over the Oval Office on Ja

“Has any president answered to “his leaders” in the church? I don’t think so. You keep posting this over and over and over again.”

First of all, we have never had a devout Mormon president before. Secondly, all previous presidents belonged to groups that either weren’t hierachal or the president wasn’t devout.

Finally, I have posted this 3 times. That hardly constitutes “over and over”. Additionally, the verbage is slightly different each time.

There were more victims at Mountain Meadows than Mormons killed in Missouri or Illinois.

As Brigham Young said after the murder of all those innocent men women and children, “Vengeance is mine and I have taken a little.”

Seriously, persecuted is a stretch. You either live by the laws of the land or you leave. Mormons left.

“Get some fresh air.”

I will, when mormons stop trying to put their guy in the White House. Or, when mormons stop trying to peddle, albeit unknowingly, “chocolate covered poison.”

one of the most persecuted and oppressed minorities in history.
That is false, no matter how badly you want it to be true. Nothing you can say or do will make it true. You can only pretend that it's true.

Class???? What is that?
Oh, golly-- only you poor Mitt fans know what "class" is. And you're just stuck at this website with hoards of the great unwashed who don't support Mitt and, therefore, have no class.

Your arrogance knows no bounds.

Real conservatives, like Ronaldo Maximus, do not need
magic underwear. They are clothed in...

Conservative Convictions - Real ones. They don’t hold their
convictions, their convictions hold them (They don’t
buy them as “lifetime memberships” at the end of their
lives).

Belief in the capability of humans to better their
lives - They don’t use the government to force people
to comply (as Willard did in MA).

Ronaldo Maximus had these in spades. Just listen to the
recordings of his hundreds of radio messages, where he
outlined those convictions.

Willardo Minimus is a pretend conservative who clothes himself
in the power of ritual and underwear and beliefs of convenience.

Don’t stain the memory of a true conservative who was
also a leader and not a manager.

By your 'history' standard not even the people that you listed rank in the top ten of the most persecuted.

Like hell.

What an informative reply. The fact that the Jews, Slavs, Armenians etc. still exist is proof that you are wrong : )

Mormons are one of the most persecuted groups in American history. What my Slavic grandparents endured, upon their arrival to this country, wasn't even close to what Mormons have had to endure.

Lots of people get persecuted and the Mormons surely had their share (some of it justified, in my opinion). I think if I had to rank the most persecuted groups in America I think I would place Mormons third after Indians and Blacks.

I suppose I would have left too, after Boggs signed the extermination order. The Mormons were driven out of every place they had ever been until they fled out of the country and decided that they would flee no more.

Just for my own curiosity, what do Romney’s skivvies have to do with any-freakin-thing?

That proves nothing. What you're saying is that unless a group or people is completely annihilated, they have not been persecuted.

Absurd.

Dec. 16, 2007 Meet the Press
MR. RUSSERT: I want to ask you about an interview you had with Sam Stone—Sunstone magazine. Here’s it on the cover. It’s a Mormon-based magazine. This is from November of ‘05, and it says, quote, “Romney sought advice from the man he admires most in this world, Mormon President Gordon Bitner Hinckley. The conversation eventually turned to whether a run for the presidency would be good for him and the church. The specifics of the conversation are, of course, known only to people who were there.”

Should voters be concerned that you were seeking input from the leader of the Mormon church as to whether or not you should run for president?

No, what I am saying is that an annihilated race trumps a partially annihilated group, when it comes to being persecuted. What can be worse persecution than to completely eliminate a people?

If the perversion that is polygamy was so important to them, I don’t blame them for leaving.

But as far as the numbers go, Mormons killed more non-mormons than non-mormons killed Mormons.

The whole persecution thing looks quite different when you realize they killed more.

You are right kinda, it was another poster that said that Malkin and Coulter had endorsed Romney.

In context though, Coulter also said

"COULTER: No. Actually, I don't really like any of our front-runners."
She doesn't like Romney or any of the others that pop up as front runners, but would settle for Romney if she had no other choice.

It wouldn't help though, Romney could not win the general election even with Ann's vote.

Thanks for the url, I saw the show but did not remember the exact words.

You are ignorant and don't know what you are talking about.

Better in such instances to keep your mouth shut.

Let them feel like victims. No amount of common sense will change their self-perception that they suffered! It gives them reinforcement in their belief that they alone are right.

Believe me, I come from a religion that likes to bask in its forefathers’ persecution. I have no patience for such stupidity. What my ancestors suffered has no bearing on me, I am not a victim. They were. But I have seen that ‘victim’ bs too often in my life.
