Every Thursday at the Finest |
I wonder if the one who made that snow animation knows how many people use it! Other ‘snow’ backgrounds just can’t compare.
It is definitely the best “snow”
I love the story of the ring..I was an ace guesser of gifts that were wrapped so the family used to try to fool me!
I am so glad you are back with us, lonestar..I missed you and Weinie!
I love these roses and your frame,kitty..Thank you for the prayers, ..I am taking the day off mostly..and loving my heating pad!
I do have to get busy with paperwork!
WHAT???? WHAT???
And Meg, now I know the story about Weinie! That is a cute dog and I understand he ran for office a few years back! Meg, were you here on the Finest when he ran for office? LOL~~
When lonestar was telling he was poisoned by a squirrel I got very inquisitive and so lonestar told me the story!
Meg, did you wonder where I disappeared to today? This week was so crazy with Christmas being on Tuesday....I forgot I had a hair appointment today. So I hurried and showered and went on and got that done!
Meg, hope your back keeps improving....and lonestar, I will not let Weinie know that you are back on here at fast speed!!
Enjoy!
The best ever, to each and everyone.

a shot from last week that I think I already posted but haven't worked up any new ones recently..
Great pic...Dolly. Guess you have been keeping busy! I read where you leave your decorations up too, like I do. I will probably take my things down the 2nd or 3rd January. Not interested in tearing into them on the 1st. Doesn’t worry me!
What are your big New Year’s Eve plans? That is when I get lonely without someone. He may come along yet. And he may not! I will have some champagne, though. I like it! I had my SIL come up last New Years early in the evening for a few finger foods and a glass of bubbly......because I didn’t want her here late! I usually watch the New Year in with television programming. (Dropping the ball) etc. It has become just another day for me but I try to make the best of it.
Going to Severance Hall & the Cleveland Pops for New Years.. Last year was Grove Park Inn & Biltmore.. so sweet.
Friend Mark who I was with offered South Africa this year but I cannot be away 3 weeks.. sigh...So he will go ..
I have learned that for me it is much better to be alone for any holiday or event than be with the WRONG person.. sometimes you dont know he is the wrong person however..It sounds awful I know but when my dogs are around I really dont feel lonely.. they are good company & I dont have to worry about makeup, hair, fat etc.(if you know what I mean?)
I signed up in 03..Weinie’s story I know! He was a great candidate...and I literally shed tears when I learned of Weinie’s demise..Weinie has a great deal of reponsibility at Rainbow Bridge making sure everyone does as Weinie wants! He is there to welcome our beloved pets when they go to Rainbow Bridge...He is top dog!
I forgot to tell you..Those flowers are fuschias.
Thank you for the lovely New Year’s thoughts.
Meg, I joined Free Republic in September, 2000! We were into politics very happily at that time. I stayed on political threads all the time. Hubby was still here and I didn’t have as much time to spend but I just hadn’t found “the finest” yet.
In 2002, hubby was diagnosed with kidney failure. He had not felt well for a long time but the doctors couldn’t put their finger on it. He started dialysis in 02 in May and passed away in 04 in May. Only lived 2 years on dialysis. What actually took him though, he had a cardiac cath. and he bled to death. Everything is harder on dialysis patients.
He was a precious man! Thank goodness, God heals us so we can continue on. Don’t you agree? In 2008, I will have been a member for 8 years.

Can’t figure out how the post went twice.......gee! Sorry!
I know how hard it is to lose your soulmate..I think Christmas Is always the time I miss mine most now..and it has been many many years.
I joined Free Republic for the politics..lurked for years! My son used to send me links to Free Republic..He’s a lurker still..
I joined at the beginning of the Iraq war..and had to relearn to type..I used to just read the net when I first got a computer. I posted on the politics threads all the time once I got started.
I think my kitty had just died of cancer and I saw the Finest with a pet thread..so here I am.
Hope your aching bones feel better..My back does.
Lori - 4 DOGS??? wow.. Chachi must have had a ball.
He did! He was in doggie heaven. And you should have seen the pile of Christmas toys he got.......yes, he is just a bit spoiled. LOL.
You are a good hostess to make peoples pets feel welcome. To me that is always important both ways.. for me to have MY HOME be a welcome spot & to KNOW my guys are welcomed elsewhere.
Well, I love dogs - the more the better. Now, if someone shows up with a cat, that might be a bit of a problem.....as much as I love them, our two dogs don't.
We had Chachi and my mom's Silky Terrier, my son's Boston Terrier and also their old Pug, "Penny". It was a menagerie, for sure! LOL. But the best news is, Chachi's back problems seem completely cleared up. He ran and romped and wrestled around for days with his "guests" and never suffered a bit from the back problem he had a few months ago. What a relief! It is the miracle we have been praying for.
Anyway, I will reply now on this old thread....
"Installing" Vista? So you bought it with XP and you're going to partition the drive, I think to have both?
No, my son ordered the computer with Vista Home on it, but had a copy of XP to replace Vista, IF I just flat refused to work with it. But, he convinced me that the time to switch to Vista is now, with a new computer and all new hardware and software that he knew would be compatible. I pretty much had to trust his judgment, since he knows more about these things than I ever will. The reason I said "installing Vista" is because he uninstalled Vista Home and installed a different version (Vista "Office" or "Pro" or something like that, I can't remember the name).
See, I didn't realize that Vista had so many compatibility issues either until I started putting my software on it - plus the only version of AOL that would work with Vista would only show compressed graphics, which are ugly and fuzzy. Otherwise, I found Vista to 'look' a lot like XP. I do hope the Service Pack will take care of a lot of the things I hate about Vista though.
So far, I am liking Vista okay, everything is working okay now and I am discovering some neat features in Vista and in IE7. Only one thing I don't like is not being able to use "view partial source". It is not available for IE7. I used to use that feature everyday. :-(
I think I told you that all of a sudden my XP computer started working like a charm ('after' I bought a new pc with Vista installed), so until Vista makes some more improvements it's just sitting in my cabinet - turned on only about once a week to download any updates that it may need. But one of my biggest complaints (and one that I read on many Vista forums) is that on top of everything else, Vista a HUGE HOG for memory. It has exactly twice the RAM and harddrive my XP has, but XP runs faster with more of my software programs installed than Vista did with fewer of them installed.
I know it uses a LOT of memory, but since you bought it with a new computer, it shouldn't have been a problem, I wouldn't think.
Sigh! I do hope you like it better than I do.
It's a shame that you aren't using your new computer, but nice that your other one with XP started working again. As far as my new computer goes, so far, so good and I am just about ready to start working on graphics again, so I can finish up Montana. I will let you know when it is ready.
Oh, and I also figured out how to open my html files in notepad....took over an hour to figure it out, but I was finally able to do it!
