Hey Kentucky, brush your freaking teeth. What do you think this is? England?

Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles roll off assembly lines in thriving Alabama and South Carolina cities, thanks in part to $8.5 million in federal money designed to help poverty-stricken Appalachia.
Hey Man.
You’re needed in Kentucky.
We so often see these “OMG we’re just so negletful of people who desperately need our help” stories. The upshot is that YOU must vote for more programs, more wealth distribution and then the federal government will be able to solve these problems and save these poor people.
This seems aimed at people who want dental programs for people who are so malnourished that one might think to focus on something other than merely the teeth.
How obvious can these people be!!! Let us spend your money on fixing their teeth although they are not capable of figuring out how to live their lives at the most basic level and giving them great chompers won’t help one bit.
I get so tired of this stuff.
FORTY years AFTER LBJ’s War on Poverty. It is a quagmire motivated by Big Dem.

Normally I look with a healthy dose of suspicion anything the Slimes has to say.
Especially when Kentucky is such an easy target.
But.... other data seems to bear this out as true.
As if there aren't crack addicts with rotting teeth sleeping in the doorways of the Times Building.
Sounds like the American Dental Association needs to establish clinics with rotating volunteers, and with dental school students from across the USA. They can ask Colgate for supplies(but nothing made in China or South Africa, especially from those dollar stores).
It’s the end of 2007, and the article is saying that Americans are out there that don’t know the value of a toohbrush and toothpaste?
That’s a real stretch. At this point, that’s a personal choice, not societal cruelty.
when I read a story like this, the only thing that really crosses my mind is look at all the money that our government sends overseas to “help” poor countries and their citizens. look at all the money the rich and famous raise for charities that do nothing to help the least among us in OUR OWN FLIPPIN’ COUNTRY!!!
We must never forget that although we live in the best country in the world with the most opportunities it does not mean that everyone is fortunate.
Northern California has similar problems. The environmentalists created a “New Appalachia” with their destruction of the timber industry. We have kids in our county that are in 6th grade and never have seen a dentist. 85% of our children live in poverty. What’s worse, is that the dentists here won’t accept MediCal dental insurance. We have a van that visits childcare and schools once a year to try and get screening of the worst cases done.
If you see someone with pretty teeth in Ga., they’re bought, borrowed, or rented.
I happened once to visit with a man who was a route driver for a company that supplied snack (i.e. junk)foods to gas stations and convenience stores. His route encompassed one of our local Indian reservations and he boasted that his sales of snack items were the highest in a three state region solely because of sales on the reservation.
Sorry, I was raised in mostly rural areas. I live in one now—well water, no flouridation. Yet strangely, since the age of 9 I’ve had ONE cavity. Another case of the NY Times telling those poor bastards in flyover country how dumb they are not to live in “enlightened” socialist areas like NYC.
No dental problems in New York. Lets pile on Kentucky, that redneck Southern state.
I seriously doubt that statement.I know the NYT’s good friend Dan Rather would spin that and say it was metaphorically true (fake but accurate). In the end he would say we didn’t really mean people would starving when we said people were starving. I think that any new organization that implies people are starving should support the statement or shut up.
