Huck offers olive branch to Rush, asks for him to get in touch

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The best-talking Republican politician in America has a message for the best-talking conservative voice in the country: Let's talk to one another.

Mike Huckabee, taking questions from reporters after a town hall meeting here, responded to the torrent of criticism that Rush Limbaugh unleashed during his broadcast yesterday by turning the other cheek — and then heaping on the praise.

"I love Rush Limbaugh; I've always loved his show," Huckabee assured. "I think he’s been great for the conservative movement."

The former Arkansas governor conceded that he hadn't sought Limbaugh out to set the record straight — but that he would like to.

"I don’t have his number," Huckabee explained. "If you have it, Jonathan, why don’t you give it to me. I’d love to talk to him."

"Maybe put it on the Web that if he’ll call me, I’d love to visit with him."

Stung by an anonymous Huckabee supporter's comments to Marc Ambinder that derided the influential talker as taking his cues from the "D.C./Manhattan chattering class," Limbaugh used his Friday show to defend himself.

"I'm part of the Cape Girardeau-Middle America axis," Limbaugh said, alluding to his Missouri hometown.

He called the attacks "Clintonian" and accused Huckabee's campaign of "trying to dumb down conservatism in order to get it to conform with his record."

It’s possible Huckabee and Romney could wipe each other out, elevating some of the conservatives.

I would not be able to vote for Mike Huckabee. I never thought I would say that about any Republican candidate.
That was before he became a viable candidate.

I. Will. Never. Vote. For. Huckabee.

but now that he has extended an olive branch
Are you kidding?! Asking Rush to call him is extending an olive branch?

Why would Rush Limbaugh call a weaselly unethical liar like Huckabee after the filthy hick insulted him? Rush will be heard by millions daily long after Huckabee returns to his sweaty Baptist wallboard boxes.

Phyllis Schlafly (of Eagle Forum)comments on Huckabee’s lack of conservatism:

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. “He [Huckabee] destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles,” she says. “Yet some of the same evangelicals who sold us on George W. Bush as a ‘compassionate conservative’ are now trying to sell us on Mike Huckabee.”

Huckabee didn't personally slam Rush Limbaugh and Rush will be remiss not to respond positively to Huckabee's outreach.

I think Huckabee has a real chance to be elected President with or without the childish temper tantrums of conservative Huck Haters.

The trashing of Huckabee by some on this web site is not hurting Huckabee's over-all standing but it is exposing the immaturity of the perps.

Mike Huckabee's success is very likely to make a lot of people who have derided his candidacy eventually look like fools.

“Mr. Snerdley please tell Huckleberry we are not entertained by him .”

If Mike Huckabee calls Rush on January 2nd, Mr. Snerdley could politely tell him that Rush does not do interviews except in rare instences, and only does interviews of his choice. Mr. Snerdley could then suggest that Mr.Huckabee email Rush if he so wishes.

I have a hard time with the maturity of your post. Perhaps because I am one of the childish and immature.
Be that as it may, I still like my candidates to be honest.
If they have followed a course in the past, I like to know that from them. If they write something or allow their people to write something for them, I would like to see them stand behind it. I may disagree with their position but immaturely I respect it.
I will not vote for Huck, no matter how immature you think that makes me.

Mike Huckabee’s success is very likely to make alot of people who supported and voted for him eventually look like fools.
That’s my childish tantrum for today.

"I think he’s been great for the conservative movement."

I'm wonderin' why Huck thinks he knows any more about the conservative movement than he does International Affairs.

I would encourage Rush to interview Huck anytime.

Put that man on the air, under artful inquiry, and he'll look just as stupid as he is.

"The last thing Rockefeller republicans want".

We don't fear the Huckster. We will crush him...he will be known for all that remains of US History as a baffoon. All that support him will be known the same.

Huck bit off more than he could chew...a legitimate threat to split the party less than a year before the general election.

Huck don't pack that kinda @ss.

"He would split the party just as bad as Rudy would, totally agree".

Far worse. About 85% of existing Republicans could vote for Rudy in the general election. Only about 50% of existing Republicans could vote for the Huckster...and he wouldn't be able to win any "crossover" votes from independents and dims.

Huck would LOSE all 50 states in one of the biggest routs in history.

I'd rot in the gutters of hell before I'd vote for him...and all my GOP buddies are on the same page.

Ok, if I have to choose between Huck and Hell, I’d vote for him, but short of that he will NEVER get my vote.

"If the GOP nominates Huckabee, the GOP will lose and it will be the end of the Christian right as a force in the GOP for many years".

the "Christian Right" will have to form it's OWN party, composed of 12% of the general electorate.

This bruhaha between Rish and Huck is a microcosm of what's happening in the GOP.

The Christian Right can ride this GOP horse, or the GOP can form a new coalition without them. Rudy is a perfect example of that.

Anyone who doesn't see that is smokin some of what I'd like to have.

the Christian Right needs to understand, they don't set conditions. They don't dominate this party. They don't make the rules. However, they're welcome...and can have REAL influence (every nominee since Reagan has been MOSTLY on their side)...or they can relegate themselves to oblivion.

Personally, I think it'd be easier without them. Too tempermental. I liked it better when they voted dim and the GOP was conservative/libertarian.

Yeah right, The Huckster and his illegal alien loving ways has had his 15 minutes.

It's time to get back to the feed trough or better yet join the Justus Brothers as a shakedown minister.
