Mike Huckabee said Friday that he does not remember if he even wrote the line in a controversial journal article calling President Bushs foreign policy arrogant bunker mentality, after the article drew criticism from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The Republican presidential candidates piece in the January-February edition of Foreign Affairs said that Bushs foreign policy is counterproductive, and urged a shift in diplomatic tone. GOP rival Mitt Romney afterward condemned the comments and Rice called them simply ludicrous on Friday.
But Huckabee told reporters aboard a bus in Iowa that he was not the sole author of that piece.
I wrote most of the article, but I had help
There was probably eight or 10 people involved, he said, explaining that it went through several re-writes.
Even if Huckabee didnt write the bunker mentality line, hes still espoused that criticism before.
The former Arkansas governor said at a Center for Strategic and International Studies event in September that the administrations bunker mentality has been counterproductive, both at home and abroad. Theyve done a poor job of communicating and consulting with other countries, just as they have, frankly, with the American people.

You know how they say, it’s not the crime, it’s the coverup...
That goes for the weaseling too.

In one week he has trashed Bush, trashed Rush, and then lies about what he said. Put a fork in this loser, 'cause he's done. This is Huckabee's 'Howard Dean scream' moment.
He's a liar, a con artist, and his policies are very liberal. Anyone supporting this clown after this is engaged in a blind cult following, as Rush said 'identity politics', and not a serious look into his record or ethics.

When is this self-righteous liberal bore's 15 minutes up?
That question's giving me a headache.
If this leftist wins the R nomination, I'm going third party. Permanently.

Sounds like the Huckster suffers from ICRS (I-Can’t-Recall Syndrome), which has afflicted Hillary every time she’s caught in a sticky situation. There must be something in the water in Arkansas.

JH2—Merry Christmas!
Looks like the Huckster is spinning—Clinton style.
Even if he didn’t write it, he must have approved the final draft. If he didn’t, he has no business running the country.

Agreed that Huck can't handle the scrutiny of a frontrunner. I note that Huck
spoke the bunker mentality phrase in a speech in September, when the verdict was not yet in on the surge. (finger in the wind?) He's toast...polls will drop just in time for the cauci vote.
Meanwhile--across town--Mitt's being tarred with the MLK thing, but Mitt's kerkuffel could help him, highlighting his family's support of civill rights. Those who refuse to understand Mitt's explanation are probably Mormon bashers anyway, so I see no net loss...
...but if there are losses for both the front runners, it opens the door for my current # 1 FRED THOMPSON !!! And maybe McCain too....brokered convention ! Cool.

RUSH: RUSH: Again, when I raise questions about public reports regarding any candidate's record or position, what I am doing is comparing the record and position with our founding conservative principles. I am a conservative first. I am not a Republican first. It matters. When I raise questions about, say, about Governor Huckabee's positions on illegal aliens, tax increases, the release of hundreds of criminals via pardon and his rhetoric about our war effort, sorry, I'm trying to develop an understanding of the guy so I can determine for myself whether he is in fact the kind of conservative you and me want as our president. I've not "attacked" him. I have studiously avoided it. But I've raised questions -- and, of course, in this climate, questions will be considered an attack, but I'm going to keep asking the questions if I believe it's warranted to do so. Yet the mere fact that I have commented on his record appears to have caused great anguish in his campaign. They accuse me (and apparently others, too), who are going through this process of being part of the DC-Manhattan axis. Last time I checked, I was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Now, it may not be Arkansas, but it is Middle America. (cont.)

"But Huckabee told reporters aboard a bus in Iowa that he was not the sole author of that piece." Fine, then. I will hold all of the authors, whose names are on the article, responsible for making it. I will also hold any of them who disavow what they said, a couple of days later, unworthy of my vote for President.

He was being figurative. I am so sick of political doublespeak. I said it but I did not mean what you think I said, or I have no clear recollection of saying that, or I changed my mind since I said that.
Dang it already....say what you mean and mean what you say.
