Everyday Americans, true patriots to the core, came out in the sleet, wind, rain (and yes, sometimes under bright blue skies and warm rays of sunshine) to raise the flag of the United States and bring real support for our troops, the kind that keeps them rolling when they miss their families and have to face another day of fighting a cowardly but lethal enemy.
Our last stop before Iraq was at Liberty Park at the World Trade Center grounds, or, as I like to call it, Ground Hero, because it inspires the men and women on the frontlines of the war against radical Muslim jihadists. Standing across from the void that used to be the World Trade Center is the simplest way to learn the truth of this war.
Freezing rain stung our faces as we prayed for the victims and our heroes. A steady stream of New Yorkers stopped by with cards for our troops. One New York police officer stepped out of his patrol car and carried a card to us.
"This is from us guys at the local precinct," he said. "We want to thank the troops for fighting against the animals that did this to us."
He nodded toward Ground Hero.
"We lost some that day," the officer said. "Tell them not to give up. And thanks."

“God bless our brave troops and God bless America!”
These few words cannot be said enough. Thanking for posting this.
Oops...thank you for posting this. Can’t see well right now.
I join you in that prayer.
God bless our troops bump!
and they deserve us taking a look at what they're going through = You want to see HOW HARD they are fighting?
Go to the home base WEb page for the 173rd Airborne

scroll down to the link "Go behind the front lines in Afghanistan" and watch the four shot clips.
And on the same page, click on "Into the Valley of Death" - the article is in the current issue (Jan 08)Of Vanity Fair now on the stands.
Both pieces are on Battle Co., a small TAsk Force Unit out there alone in the most dangerous and inhospitable place on earth right now...but you don't hear about it. These are both about a small group of paratroopers perched on a Rock shelf they pickaxed out of a mountainside - in the Kunar District of north east Afghanistan, in a valley known as "Taliban CentraL" - They were in 450+ firefights (average of 2 a day) in just their first 6 months.
Yet I'll bet that even if 1 in a hundred of you have even heard of it - or have a clue what these guys are enduring - I'd be surprised.
Got the guts to watch?

cmon now, I am a FR regular - of course I have seen and read all about that. Not sure what part of my post you’re taking issue with, but the next time you assume that only people like you REALLY know what’s going on, think again.
Pinging all my lists.
Awww come on, I can’t read this at work.
Bump for later.

Thanks, Star!
Thank you for posting this article.
Merry Christmas to you, friends, and family!!!
OUR SOLDIERS ARE THROWING AWAY THEIR LIVES. (hold on the flames for a sec...)
Yes. They are.
They threw away their adolescence.
They threw away fun with the opposite sex in the back seats of cars.
They threw away Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays with family.
Some threw away being at the birth of their own child.
Some will throw away a little blood. Some will throw away the ability to walk the rest of their life.
Some will throw away their life.
So that you, and I, could have our adolescence, our romps in the back seat.
So that we could have Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving.
So that we could be with family to celebrate birthdays, and see our children being born.
So that we could walk upright, healthy, and earn a good living.
So that we could go to a Mormon, Jewish, Catholic, Methodist, even an Islamic church service, without fear.
We want FREEDOM. But someone must pay for it. Someone must be willing to ‘give something up’ to keep that freedom. Someone must be willing to ‘throw away’ all the normalcy of the Average American’s life to protect us.
Our soldiers have done this. PAID for our FREEDOM, and they have done so, IN ADVANCE.
Even though many of them will never get the chance to see if their ‘efforts’ PAID OFF.
We OWE them a debt that can never be repaid, and even if we somehow could, they would assure you they didn’t deserve, because they were just “DOING THEIR DUTY”.
(Sorry! :-) )
Good to see you — and Merry Christmas!!
Thanks Star
Yeah, me neither...bump for place-holder!
I'll vouch for that...to this day, that's my attitude. Mine was the Cold War, and reasonably safe, but I honored that blank check I wrote every day for 20 years.
Man, I love the name “Ground Hero”
AWESOME
