In addition to raising auto fuel efficiency standards 40 percent, an energy bill passed by Congress yesterday bans the incandescent light bulb by 2014.

President Bush signed the 822-page measure into law today after it was sent up Pennsylvania Avenue in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The House passed the bill by a 314-100 vote after approval by the Senate last week.

Oh Good, Islamic terrorists want us dead ,our borders are porous, and Congress is concerned about light bulbs....

They’ll probably change the sockets in refrigerators so you can’t use refrigerator bulbs in other sockets around the house. Or they will make incandescent bulbs for refrigerators unavailable.

Actually buying bulbs to last your lifetime might be a good investment. Almost like investing money. The price is surely to go up anyhow.

A guy wrote a book about this in the 70’s. He touted it as another way to invest. He suggested buying huge supplies of things like paper towels, light, bulbs, toilet paper, soap, kleenex, aluminum foil, and many others....things that don’t go bad over time, but will go up in price over time.

I didn’t have the space to store them then, but the investment savings would have been enormous.

I don’t get their point at all. Any time energy consumption drops, TVA raises rates to cover the loss. This has nothing to do with saving energy.

While I agree this is idiocy by Congress and the President, I have high hopes that by 2012 that there will be very-highly-efficient LED replacements to eliminate the need for most incandescent lamps and CFLs.

It is just as much Dictator Bush’s fault as it is Congress’ fault. And yes, the majority was veto-proof (but then again, would it have garnered the votes it got had there been a threat of veto?).

This idiotic bill was not justification for the war funding. It may have been part of the “deal” - and if so, we have had our lives yet again traded away by our traitor in office.

This is the last straw for me and GW Bush. I have officially made the circle. When he took office - to the first bits of the WOT, I truly admired him. Since then, I have steadily lost respect. And in the last couple of months, he has turned into a worthless pile of steaming Donkey Dung.

I am fed up.

Maybe we DO need Ron Paul... he may be a nut, but at least he still believes in our freedom...

Yes, and just as peachy is the requirements to share the technology that was developed by GE engineers so the chicoms can dominate yet another market.

I guess incandescent light bulbs will go the way of the old fashioned 5 gal flush toilets.
