Tancredo to make "major announcement" Thursday on GOP bid (dropping out?)

DENVER(AP) --- Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo says he will make a "major announcement" Thursday about his long-shot campaign but did not say what it would be.

Tancredo, a congressman representing the southern Denver suburbs, scheduled a news conference in Des Moines.

Tancredo has consistently polled at the back of the seven-person GOP field. He has based his campaign on opposition to illegal immigration, running television ads that link lax border security to terrorist attacks, rape and other crimes.

No, I get to support the only conservative in this race who’s managed to move enough people to poll in the top tier.

Then, I laugh at you pretending that Duncan Hunter is in any way a viable candidate. You’re more gung-ho about Hunter’s candidacy than Hunter is. Good for you. But don’t expect people to refrain from pointing out how silly you look while you’re doing it.

And I see now as the perfect time for it to make an impact.

Thanks for writing what I also thought but was too quick to bring up. And being from Iowa (my neighboring state) your comments are timely as well.

You can point it out all you want. But Hunter is rising. Fred has fallen drastically since his entry.

Probably about 1.5% or so considering that a number of the supporters are so ornery that they’ll find a reason to not support their own candidate for some imagined infraction.

Something along the lines of:

“How can someone who stutters so much endorse Hunter??! That’s it, I’m voting for Keyes...”

Clever analysis. Dang, this is being too interesting without being hopeful or fun, if you know what I mean.

You’ve been saying that for months. Hunter isn’t doing anything. He isn’t moving and isn’t making the least bit of effort to further his campaign.

He could be where Huck is now, but he didn’t have the organizational skills or the personality to pull it off.

Rudy needs to stay in the race until McCain drops out. If he goes, 10 to 2 he endorses McCain and oh what a bounce that will be.

Fred needs to make a move because after Florida, my guess is Rudy closes up shop and backs McCain.

Consideration of this may be why we've heard lately about a possible brokered convention.

No. Huck pandered to the values voters and fleeced them into believing he is a conservative. That was the genesis of his rise. He got tons of favorable press (which has since ended mostly) as well.

I had hoped Huckabee would be the next to bail out but he seems to have gotten some wind up his skirt. I predict Hunter will be the next one out after Tancredo.

Tancredo is dropping out and supporting Thompson. I’ll bet a steak dinner to you both.

Given this from another article posted here:

Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.

I would say that is a good bet.

The problem with MCain being anywhere on any ticket of in any administration is his ego. He will undermine any administration he is in and when he is fired he will rat on them for publicity.
