I almost adopted a Moluccan, Lucky, but he was way too needy and needed to be the only bird in a house. I already had 4, so I adopted a blue & gold instead. My gray ‘Brie’ and my little parrotlet ‘Cricket’ will fly over if there’s anything on my plate that looks interesting. The macaw doesn’t fly and nor does the Amazon.
That is a load of BS. If the man is paying child support and earning less than $100k per year, he is screwed. Take my word for it. $55k income, I pay $978 a month, after taxes for one child. The ex makes $45k at her job.
Now, tell me who has the better standard of living?
Why does she have to pay him anyhting? Were they married a year? I can’t see any judge not granting her an annullment and paying nothing to him! It was obviously a sham.

Therein lies the rub.
Generally a short marriage gets no alimony. In fact the most is rehabilitative alimony after at least five years.
(get appartment, deposists etc.)
Why we talk about 20+ year marriages don’t forget that pensions get divided, assets get divided too. Often by that time the careers are on the way to over. There are no kids to raise.
I think was should happen without any exception is that alimony should NOT be allowed to be permanent. It should have a max time even if it is 20 years. There should also be absolute cut offs when the relationships move on. IOW if the exwife has a boyfriend who cohabits then the alimony ends. (with or without marriage)
Have you considered taking the kids? IF not, is it worth that $978 for someone else to take that job for you?
I think what bon mots was getting at is if you turn on the TV and look at these ‘teens out of control’ or you look at gang members and the like, you tend to see children without positive male figures immediately and consistently involved in their lives, which has contributed to their criminality and pathology.
It’s not that a kid in a good home can’t go bad but that it’s MORE likely that a GOOD mom can turn out a bad son (men simply can control and guide young men better, provided they themselves are not broken human beings) more easily than a GOOD dad would.
It’s not a statement of superiority, only that men in the family serve a specific function, especially with the dangers and temptations and pathologies present in our culture.
In the 1940s, things were better overall and male figures may not have been the ‘fathers’ but they ruled/watched over the neighborhoods where the fatherless kids lived.
Lulu is called crazy because she’s a self-plucker/mutilator (talk about NEEDY). Diva, OTOH, often snubs me to sit outside and play with the other birds. Those two are polar opposites.
However, if I anything needs antiquing or distressing, I let them sit on it.

Thanks :) She understood that since I was willing to fight for what even she, at age 8, believed to be her best interest, she complied willingly with the reasonable discipline at home.
Oddly, it wasn’t until this year that I’ve ever gotten any lip from her (the god-you-are-so-stupid look we all occasionally get from teenagers). I welcome it, in small measure, as a healthy way to assert independence.

How much money would you think would be fair to pay for your childs food, clothing, shelter (mortgage and utilities) etc.
Not a slam, just a mathematical question. What would be the minimum to keep him alive and what would be the max you’d be willing to pay for slightly better quality of life for your child?
I’ll never understand why non-custodial parents think child support goes only to the benefit of the custodial parent and does not at all benefit the child.
I don’t know all the specifics. I gather they’ve been married just long enough for trouble in the courts.
