NEW YORK Russian President Vladimir Putin was named the Time magazine "Person of the Year."
Richard Stengel, Time's managing editor, said the 2007 honor went to the Russian leader "for an extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability."
Others in the running for the honor included Nobel Prize-winner Al Gore and author J.K. Rowling

It's actually quite an astute maneuver on Time's part. It reduces the likelihood that one of its journalists will be arrested and sent to the Gulag.

The thing is, The Surge was the biggest story of the year and Patraeus made it work. Should’ve been a no-brainer, but once again the press proves it has no brains.

He silenced his opponents, heated up the Cold War again, and oh yeah, hand selected the next president and assigned himself PM of Russia.

Gee am I glad I cancelled my subscription to Time over 25 years ago. This is an editorial staff who hasn’t met a communist they didn’t like. They’re gaga over the hillbilly marxist team of Clinton and Clinton.

Putin was named the Time magazine “Person of the Year.”
Of course, you realize now that Katie Couric is gonna have to dust off her knee pads for that obligatory P.O.Y. interview.......

Okay, having just returned from Russia I can say that Putin is very popular there. One should consider who it is attacking him — the same multinational corporate/foundation types who dislike conservatives in the USA.
Putin is a nationalist and it’s too bad we don’t have a leader like him in the White House.

Indeed they did, and what a glorious writeup they did of him, too, as an ally in 1943.
My father saved a copy as a reminder of how the press can make mistakes, or worse. I never forgot that lesson.

What! Only one cover? Their Stalinist devotion must be slipping.

1943:
1945:
...And I may have missed one or two.
