Hoping a new attorney general will be more sympathetic to their cause, John Walker Lindh's parents again asked the White House to commute the sentence of the Marin County man who fought in Afghanistan for the Taliban.
The family filed a petition today asking that Lindh's 20-year sentence be commuted. Lindh pleaded guilty in 2002 to providing services to the Taliban and carrying explosives during a felony.
His attorneys first applied for a commutation in 2004, and have regularly beseeched the government since then to shorten Lindh's sentence.
"We hope that President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush will find it in their hearts to grant mercy this holiday season," Lindh's mother, Marilyn Lindh, said today.
Lindh's two-decade sentence is unfair compared to people like David Hicks, the Australian who was sentenced to nine months for providing material support to Al-Qaida,...

If President Jorge is unable to find it within his heart to fully pardon THREE Americans worthy of such mercy (i.e., Scooter Libby and Agents Ramos and Compean), he damn well better NOT be considering commuting the sentence of the traitor John Walker Lindh.
If the President pardons Lindh in the remainder of his term, I will be among the first on FR to call for his impeachment.
Don't let anyone tell me it wouldn't be justified.

I'll go one better: what makes any of us on this thread think the little puke wouldn't gladly do it all over if he had the chance? You think his jailhouse epiphany means jack? He just wants to get his sorry butt out of jail because he may be gettin' tired of being bubba's girlfriend. I'd say it's a fair assumption that, if he hadn't been caught and convicted, he'd still be wearing laundry on his head, a crusty beard and pajamas with an AK-47 out there in the Afghan outback hunting our precious American soldiers. Commutation? Pardon? Not just no. HELL NO!!!

They have to be kidding me - They are absolutely freaking nuts!
Why on Earth would we release him back into the America general public?
He should have been hanged as it was. 20 years was a mercy.

Just the very sight of his father's stupid face makes me want to run up and crack him in the face with an iron bar.
Talk about a book you can judge by the cover.

"We hope that President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush will find it in their hearts to grant mercy this holiday season" Which holiday season? Eid ul-Adha? Which, interestingly, starts tomorrow. (I looked that up, btw. I knew there was a Muslim holiday in December.)

Maybe if you werent a flighty buddhist - there was a young girl age 7 of Buddhist followers here in San Francisco at the school where my wife teaches, that went on a school trip to Tahoe a few years ago. Wrong place at wrong time, snow fell off of the roof and buried her alive. Rather than sue everyone they established a scholarship at the school in their daughters name. I know you are making fun of the Lindhs but putting down Buddhists IMHO is not right.

I heard some stories about what was happening to Spann, and I won’t detail them here, but it ended up with him being put out of his misery by an American serviceman and his rifle.
