House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., admitted Thursday that she had underestimated the willingness of Republicans to stand behind President Bushs Iraq policy despite the drubbing the GOP took in the polls in 2006.
The assumption I made was that the Republicans would soon see the light, she said. Instead, the minority stuck to the presidents war policy in the face of unrelenting pressure from congressional Democrats and powerful lobbying campaigns by anti-war groups.
Bush has consistently refused to accept any limitations on his authority to direct military operations in Iraq, or on funds destined for the war effort. Democrats have been unable to muster enough votes to force him to accept a timetable for withdrawal of combat troops or a change in their mission in Iraq.
The grassroots are justifiably disappointed and I am too that we have not done more to end this war, Pelosi said.

Yeah that was such a plan, tell the troops to go to war then tell the troops and the families who’s family members died — just kidding. How do you sleep at night when that was the Democrat’s plan from the beginning.
The funny thing is that you’re probably right. In fact, I’ve been quite surprised of late that the Dems hadn’t already crowed that the entire turn of fortune in Iraq came about because they so courageously forced Bush’s hand. It would be a lie, of course. But, then, that’s pretty much DNC SOP, isn’t it?
Nancy Pelosi must be living in a parallel universe of her own creation. I’m tempted to give her a large quantity of dope slaps, but I don’t know how effective that would be.
hey pelousy, you want to end the war ?
then win it
Them there's fightin' words to us Dirty Capitalist Pigs.
Yes it actually began when the final contingent of troops and equipment arrived during the second week of June '07.
This is what happens when the democrat party throws away whatever independent thinking and values it had and hooks up with radical fringe groups like MoveOn.org.
Pelosi completely misread the 2006 election, or she had also completely forgotten the Dem strategy during same. They ran CONSERVATIVE Democrats which beat LIBERAL Republicans that the right refused to return to the House again. And it's a strategy the Beast wants to use, cast herself as a "conservative Democrat" and run against a liberal Republican, like Huckabee, and repeat the 2006 Democrat success.
Yes. That’s the liberal way.
Why give your own money for what you consider to be good causes, when you can force someone else to pay for it through taxes.
In the same way, why confess and repent your own sins when you can assuage your vague and foggy sense of guilt by blaming someone else and making them pay the penalty?
Like clinton going to Africa to apologize for slave owning Americans of 150 years ago, while he shrugs off the mass murder of Africans practically right in front of him.
If you are committing adultery, surely that’s not as bad as someone else’s racism? If you are taking bribes and belong to a corrupt political family that became rich by taking bribes, surely that’s not as bad as being a white male warmonger?
The grassroots are justifiably disappointed and I am too that we have not done more to end this war, Pelosi said.
It really stings you we are winning now, doesn’t it General Pelosi?
This woman is frighteningly dumb.
Republicans are as determined as Democrats to end this war too.
We intend to win it.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., admitted Thursday that she had underestimated the willingness of Republicans to stand behind President Bushs Iraq policy despite the drubbing the GOP took in the polls in 2006.”
I think this disproves beyond doubt the crap the Dems spewed immediately after the election in ‘06, and up until fifteen minutes ago, and more than likely will continue to spew about their MANDATE by the electorate.
As I’ve written since immediately after the unfortunate event of ‘06 the electorate was disgusted with the Leftist Moderate RINO travelers in Congress, not necessarily the Iraq War.
The electorate in previous elections expected Republicans (as in common sense America first Conservatives) not Democrats when they voted Republican, therefore in ‘06 decided to try the Democrats to see if they would act with leadership for the good of the Nation instead of for the benefit of themselves as had the Republicans.
I’ve also written that the vast majority of Americans maintain Conservative values and demand quality Conservative Representation for their votes. We weren’t getting that Representation under the last Republican majority due, as I’ve also written lousey leadership in Congress.
A considerable portion of blame lies with the GOP in my opinion as that Party seems to think Americans as a Political groupthink want “Moderates”, and to play the “BiPartisan” game. They’re dead wrong.
Mod=Left=RINO=Socialist. Americans as a lot don’t want Socialism.
I can understand a Lefty like Pelosi miscalculating, misjudging the results of ‘06 as that is what the Left envisions the results should be. Those sorts on the Left are locked into Big Government Marxist Socialism, and cannot clearly see, much less analyze and understand true American values.
The GOP needs to do as I have posted before, and that is to divest themselves of the “Moderate” direction they are taking, divest themselves of the “Moderate” association with such as Giuliani, Huckabee, McPain etc. and get back to representing the majority of the People with true Conservative Representation.
We need a Conservative Congressional majority once again, but this time we must demand leadership within the Congress with the cajones to Conservatively lead.

The elections on 2006 were not about the war, they were about disgust with the way the GOP was laying down and doing nothing and personal scandals.
The Democratic victory in 2006 was narrow. They won the House by 85,961 votes out of over 80 million cast and the Senate by a mere 3,562 out of over 62 million cast.
What was her tagline to persuade your state to vote for her in the first place? I don't understand. If you don't want her there, then why vote for her? California is not that blue of a state. Is it? I saw the chart on Hannity.com during the 2004 election. it was mostly red. Was it not?
That has the ring of a tagline to it . . . anyone?
please retitle:
Pelosi Says She Miscalculated American Determination on Iraq
LOL. Thanks for the ping.
Yes, in terms of the amount of area in the state, it is mostly conservative. Unforntunately the high population areas of LA, the Bay Area, and parts of the coastline are extremely liberal (this is mostly populated by carpetbaggers as well).
