Does Our Looks-Obsessed Culture Want to Stare at an Aging Woman? (Rush)
RushKimbaugh.com via Drudge Report ^ | Dec 17, 2007 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, this theory of mine based on this Drudge picture of Mrs. Clinton, with the headline: "The Toll of a Campaign." Now, it could well be that that's a sympathy photo, too, to make people feel sorry for how tough the campaign trail is. Now, I want to preface this by saying I know it's going to get out there. Media Matters is going to get hold of this and they're going to take it all out of context. We can expect that. It's a badge of honor when this happens, but for the rest of you, I want you to understand that I am talking about the evolution of American culture here, and not so much Mrs. Clinton. It could be anybody, and it is really not very complicated. Americans are addicted to physical perfection, thanks to Hollywood and thanks to television. We know it because we see it. We see everybody and their uncle in gyms. We see people starving themselves. We see people taking every miracle fad drug there is to lose weight. We see guys trying to get six-pack abs. We have women starving themselves trying to get into size zero and size one clothes; makeovers, facials, plastic surgery, everybody in the world does Botox, and this affects men, too. As you know, the haughty John Kerry Botoxed his wrinkles out during the campaign.

There is this thing in this country that, as you age -- and this is particularly, you know, women are hardest hit on this, and particularly in Hollywood -- America loses interest in you, and we know this is true because we constantly hear from aging actresses, who lament that they can't get decent roles anymore, other than in supporting roles that will not lead to any direct impact, yay or nay, in the box office. While Hollywood box-office receipts may be stagnant, none of that changes the fact that this is a country obsessed with appearance. It's a country obsessed with looks. The number of people in public life who appear on television or on the big screen, who are content to be who they are, you can probably count on one hand. Everybody's trying to make themselves look different -- and in that situation, in that case, they think they're making themselves look better. It's just the way our culture has evolved. It's the way the country is. It's like almost an addiction that some people have to what I call the perfection that Hollywood presents of successful, beautiful, fun-loving people. So the question is this: Will this country want to actually watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?

This is likely the end for the hildabeast; nobody’s going to vote for somebody who doesn’t look like they have a shot at surviving the job. Somebody should be looking into the possibility that the general immunity these two have had to the American legal system might collapse along with the beast’s presidential aspirations.

The woman on the left is one of the most beautiful women I've ever known, she's 87 years old (about Helen Thomas' age). I may be a little biased, she's my mother, that's her 84 year old baby sister on the right.

I actually admire her for growing old gracefully in today’s society.

Are you kidding? Compare her pictures from her youth or the early days in the White House. Several aspects of her face are not the same as then. She was out of sight for a few weeks several times during the nineties. It would be poetic justice if her facial surgery/botox wears off in the next few months.

I may have called Limbaugh a lot of things, but I NEVER implied he was an aging woman.

Margaret Thatcher never bothered me. Honestly, it’s not about the looks.

If you are speaking of whom I think you are, your opinion is worth less than nothing.

I would put up with a woman like Margaret Thatcher because, unlike Mrs. Clinton, she’s a lady.

That was uncalled-for. You just cost me a perfectly good dinner.

Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meir were something less than glamorous but I would rate them above the vast majority of men in leadership roles. My dislike of Hillary has nothing to do with her appearance.

You really hit the nail on the head.

I work for a woman I jokingly call the "she-boss," but she has a heart of gold underneath her practical & businesslike exterior. If she decided to run for President, I'd vote for her in a minute. She is also 7 years older than Hillary, but looks younger.

It's Hillary's character, personality, & politics that leave me cold. Not any photo. Even one that is made to appear more flattering -- and boy, are her spin people desperate for those -- would do nothing for me.

Sheesh, her botox wore off.

Now we know why Hillary does not allow eye contact.

Oh my goodness, she looks absolutely HORRIBLE!

She is not uniquely horrible in her appearance; she's sixty years old, and that's what sixty looks like.

The media are already at work spinning this. Tomorrow, it will be, Limbaugh calls Hillary an old lady.

Rush.

The man really hates women.

But I love Rush so lets not go there.

On some level I understand what Rush is saying. but he’s just wrong.

Someone ask Rush the woman hater....does he think we don’t have grandmothers, Aunts, indeed our own parents, in our lives. In fact, we watch men grow older in the presidency and hey....

I mean...this is just too silly.

The reason Hillary looks so bad in that picture is sure, she is tired. God knows give the woman credit, she’s the one taking all the flak and she’s working like the dickens.

But that picture shows her with waaaaay more wrinkles than we’re used to on Hillary. It’s a shock. I don’t know if the woman’s just so perfectly made up those wrinkles are covered well or the Botox wore off.

But that face...it’s the face of an older woman. But hey, she does look WAY older than 60. I’ve seen plenty of 60 year old women with faces smoother than that.

But if a woman ages in front of us...like everyone ages in front of us...duh, I really think we can handle it.

Somebody tell Rush.

We all grow old, get wrinkles. and sag in unattractive ways. Why do we ridicule Hillary for the same stuff that happens to all of us?

Probably because most of us have based our lives on other goals than the way we “appear”, for we have worked hard to develop valuable skills to meet the needs of others in our families and community. We understood early on that youthful looks and energies fade, but wisdom and life-skills can never be taken away.

Hillary’s problem is that she never figured out when she was young what skills she was called to perfect. Now she is stuck with only playing “Queen of The Hill”, and lacks any talent other than “image”.

I feel sorry for her . She has sold her soul for “fool’s gold”, and now is stuck with a phony husband, a daughter programmed to abandon her, much as she abandoned Chelsea when she was little, with not much except “fame and dollars in an off-shore bank account” to comfort her in her old age.

This will be her punishment.

Even if she gains the presidency, which I doubt she will, she will still be old and lonely. It is too late for her at this point, and I think it is beginning to dawn on her that seeking that brass ring gets you nothing more than a brass ring.

Therefore the sad and worn face. She will need more and more make-up to paste over her failure at mastering life’s true challenges, and these aren’t politics!

We should pray for her, for she is lost in “worldy” woods, determined to maunder on, and has lost her chance to go back for a “mulligan”.

The scary part for all of us is that she could do so much damage to the USA, in a desperate attempt to avoid facing the mess she has made of her life. Going for power is one way to avoid facing personal failure, and stomping on others is so easy a way to keep from facing the same.

Got to keep on “pretending” that it was all worth it, “you know”!

Please pray for her soul, that she gets a needed stomp-down in this election. Then she will have some time to reflect, to atone for her past cruelty to others, to re-consider her life priorities.

Making fun of her wrinkles is just a way of distancing ourselves from our fear of the damage she could do to us if elected. We wouldn’t make such fun of Margaret Thatcher, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Golda Meir,or Barbara Bush.

None of these women were unaffected by time’s passing, but they earned our respect, not because they aged perfectly, but because they aged well, with dignity, wisdom, and skill.

hillary doesn’t understand that it takes more than demanding the stage, and she is lost because she hasn’t earned the stage, and down deep, I think she knows this. She knows that she is ridiculed for not having earned anyone’s respect, and it eats away at her very soul.

After seeing the former beauty Cheryl Tiegs on some show last night with the most horrific face lift

Say it ain't so. I thought she was still pretty hot in her mid forties. I don't even want to see what she's done to her face if she's had a lift.
