Terrible news. ‘Hearts Hotel’ was always one of my favorites - - for some reason I remember hearing that song and Toto’s ‘99’ quite often at Camp Geiger ITS. Saw Dan in Philly circa 1984.
RIP to a great talent. May God bless and comfort his family.
Rest in peace Dan.
Oh, wow. 99 is just about my favorite song ever, and Dan’s Heart Hotels and Hard to Say are great songs. High Country Snows is a phenomenal album that predated by a good ways the bluegrass revival boomlet.
I didn’t know he was sick, and am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.
He was a Christian with a Jewishish name. :) I need to pick up his Christmas album.
Thanks Jaguar, me too. I posted a couple more links above (post #27).
All the best.

Please don't give it much thought ... the self-appointed posting police (SAPPs) think that everybody, like them, lives on FR 24/7.
Actually this is the first I've heard this story and I appreciate you posting the blurb.
Or... in the alternative... as those of us in the PC-Cure advocacy community say, “relief from worry is just a finger wag away”.
Don’t forget Shel Silverstein! Dr. Hook wouldn’t have been the same without him.
Thanks for this new name coydog. I don’t know him but if he’s as good as these guys then he’s worth the research.
Take care.

I think alot of us had (real or fantasized) “Same Old Lang Syne” encounters. That song certainly brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion.
RIP and thanks for the memories.
“Same Old Lang Syne” is a new holiday tradition. Sad to see him go...especially this time of year.
They sure don’t Nathan. Dancing Shoes still gets me, even thirty years later. Brings back a lot of old memories.
All the best.

I enjoyed his songs, as well. Usually, men don’t die this young from prostate cancer, but nobody holds walks, etc. for this like they do breast cancer.

Heart Hotels
Well there’s too many windows
In this old hotel
And rooms filled with reckless pride
And the walls have grown sturdy
And the halls have worn well
But there is nobody living inside
Nobody living inside...
Gonna pull in the shutters
On this heart of mine
Roll up the carpets and pull
In the blinds
And retreat to the chambers that
I left behind
In hopes there still may be
Love left to find
Still may be love left to find.
Seek inspiration in daily affairs
Now your soul is in trouble
And requires repairs
And the voices you hear at the
Top of the stairs
Are only echoes of unanswered prayers
Echoes of unanswered prayers.
Well there’s too many windows
In this old hotel
And rooms filled with reckless pride
And the walls have grown sturdy
And the halls have worn well
But there is nobody living inside
Nobody living inside...
