The Case for Impeachment Hearings [WEXLER BLACKMAIL ALERT]
Yahoo News ^ | Fri Dec 14, 1:02 PM ET | Rep. Robert Wexler

Posted on 12/16/2007 3:13:41 PM PST by ROP_RIP

I was serving in Congress and on the Judiciary Committee for the ridiculous and politically motivated impeachment hearings of President Clinton. During that witch hunt Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, and Ken Starr wasted a year and a half on investigations and hearings about President Clinton's personal relations. However, this attempted coup d'etat by Republicans against President Clinton was not and should not be the standard of impeachment that was enshrined by the Founders in our Constitution.

...

Instead, I believe that we can both live up to our Constitutional obligation by holding hearings and pass a Democratic agenda. If President Bush perceives that the Democratic Congress is weak and unwilling to aggressively push our agenda - he will continue to veto legislation, such as children's health care - that is supported by a majority of Americans. The only way to move a progressive Democratic agenda is by acting through strength and following through on our core principles. A Congress willing to stand up to the abuses of the Bush Administration through impeachment hearings will demonstrate a strength of will that will more likely convince Bush to accommodate on issues such as Iraq, health care, and energy and environmental issues.

Today, I was joined by two other members of the House Judiciary Committee, Reps. Luis Gutierrez and Tammy Baldwin, who penned an online editorial with me calling for these impeachment hearings. In support of this effort I am releasing a call to action on video and launched WexlerWantsHearings.com. The full op-ed from the three Judiciary Committee Members can be read at this site. If we can get 50,000 or even more people to sign up in support of this effort I will report back to each and every Democratic colleague of mine the true power that exists behind this movement.

I recall that Red Nancy became Speaker, meets with GWB, and 24 hours later, Rumsfeld magically “resigned”. I am convinced she threatened GWB with the impeachment card, and in that instance, he caved.

I wouls ay that threatening to impeach the president for the express purpose of forcing him to accomodate the Democratic agenda is an excellent definition of a coup de tat. But what do I know.

Could we arrange for Mr. Wexler to receive a copy of the book “Sell Out” by David P. Schippers (Chief investigative counsel for the house judiciary committee during the Clinton impeachment). Mr. Wexler seems to have forgotten the charges that were brought by the committee he was a member of.
Dementia is a mental illness, in it’s worst variant it is commonly associated with the disease known as Alzheimer's, perhaps Mr. Wexler should be tested.

Rep. Wexler (D-FL) would like to use the threat of impeachment to force the President to endorse the Democratic agenda.

Jeez, let them try to impeach the President during the successful wind-down of a long war during an election year! Go ahead! Make my day...

The glue factory's awaitin', donkees....

Absolutely absurd. Clinton’s dalliances led him to the actions that were impeachable...lying under oath, suborning perjury, etc. We could care less who was polishing the presidential jewels. Our concern was that he lied about it, while under oath. Of course, many of us had already made up our minds about his integrity well before that point.
President Bush has not been shown to have done the same thing. The argument that he ‘lied’ about the intelligence information that got us to the WOT is major league Dem/Lib BS, regurgitated by the MSM on command from the liberal money brokers.
Even Clinton was spouting the same stuff the last few years of his presidency. Shucks, he even bombed a baby formula factory because he was so sure of this stuff.

It’s time for this crappy Congress to get its stuff together. Pass the legislation they think is needed and push it to Bush for signature or veto.

I don’t believe the electorate is interested in them holding endless, mindless hearings over issues long passed, and notions fully open to interpretation. We are smart enough to make up our own minds on a lot of these issues. We don’t need a bunch of elitist politicians telling us what to believe.

I would like Wexler, Conyers, et. al. to try it. They won't give any consideration to the unintended consequences.

Unfortunately, there is less than 13 months remaining in Bush's term. Not enough time to try it.

I voted for Bush twice, the old Bush , Dole, Regan etc.

I think bush should be impeached too, but not for the reasons that the libs do.

I think he should be impeached for not protecting our borders and not enforcing the immigration laws.

And also for referring to the moselimbs as the religion of peace...

He's a moonbat. The truth is Clinton was impeached not over sex but for perjury and obstruction of justice. Robert Wexler wants to impeach the President over a difference of opinion. That I submit, is an abuse of the impeachment power. Whatever the President did or did not do, to borrow the Democrats' own line against impeachment back in the 90s, "does not rise to the level of impeachment." Even everything the moonbats allege is true, it does not rise to the standard of proof that would justify impeaching the President Of The United States. Oh yeah - and Wexler is showing how possessed he is by BDS.

We need more people representing us that take being dishonest and showing their dishonesty in front of the Grand Jury is trivial.

We should see the ridiculousness of this slam on Bill Clinton to promote our personal freedoms. /s

“Is this just a bunch of phony grandstanding for the benefit of the Democrat base, or is Wexler actually insane?”

Wexler is insane, and probably has papers to prove it.

I join them in their call for impeaching President Bush. That would set the rat party back about 10 years. Our return to power would then be a matter of waiting for the Election results to see how many seats we cleared it by.

You are so right on this. I'm almost tempted to call my 'Rat reps and DEMAND that they impeach Bush, and put the only man of integrity on the Hill in charge of it, Dennis Kucinich (Kucinich is the guy DU, in their heart of hearts, really wants). Get that bizarre, psychotic little weasel out in front of the country to see what the 'Rats REALLY stand for, and there won't BE a Democrat Party after 2008. That would be such shame.

What a nice thought, to be able to live out my life in peace, without having to worry about a bunch of fascists taking my freedom "for the children".
