Basra: Tossed from a car and shot in cold blood (48 women killed in 6 mos. for un-Islamic behaviour)

Tossed from a car and shot in cold blood

IT WAS just after 11pm and the shopkeeper was closing up for the night when a van screeched to a halt outside. The back doors flew open. “Someone inside threw a woman onto the street,” he said. “She was lying on the road but she was still alive. A man lent out and shot a machine-gun into her body.”

As the van raced away, the shopkeeper ran over to her. She was aged 25 to 30 with long dark hair and was lying face up. “There was so much blood,” he said. “The police just took a photograph and put her in the back of a van.”

There have been 48 women killed in six months for “un-Islamic behaviour”. The murders in the teeming southern port of Basra have highlighted the weakness of the security forces and the strength of Islamic militias as Britain prepares to hand over control to Iraqi officials today.

In another case, two teenagers saw a woman beaten to death by five or six men from the Mahdi Army, Basra’s most powerful militia. One picked up a rock and crushed her skull. The teenagers were told that their home and family would be destroyed if they betrayed the killers.

Gordon Brown told the Commons last week that Iraq was now a democracy, that violence in Basra had fallen by 90% and that the Iraqis were “taking control over their own security”.

However, Major-General Jalil Khalaf, the police chief, said the city’s 28 militias were better armed than his men. “They control the ports which earns them huge sums of money” he said.

As well as skimming profits from oil exports, they were importing weapons from Iran.

“You could smuggle a tank across that border if you wanted to,” he added.

During four days of reporting independently in Basra – the first western journalist to do so for a British newspaper in almost two years – I met a Baghdad official who had come to investigate the port. He was abducted, tortured and freed only after a “gift” was promised to the kidnappers.

The objective of the UK forces in southern Iraq was to establish the security needed for political development and economic reconstruction. Major-General Graham Binns, the commander of British forces in Basra province, acknowledged that “we were unable to meet the aspirations of the Iraqi people”.

Although the statistics and events cited in this short article are of course horrible, one naturally wonders how many women would have been similarly killed by Saddam's thugs in the same time period?  Many, many more, I would wager.  The author attempts to score a political hit without providing context, as is the usual pattern in the drive-by media.

You know, if they keep doing this they won’t be able to keep growing their religion...it’s mostly growing by birth rate. I feel for these poor women but...

.More on this from today's Times, from the same author.  Once again a litany of terrible stories and an angry finger pointed at PM Brown, but no context is offered vis-a-vis Saddam's brutal, murderous reign.

I felt a new terror on Basra's streets

Most muslims are a waste of air!

Until I begin seeing regular, HUGE and enthusiastically-attended anti-terror, anti-Islamofascist, pro-Western and Pro-Jewish rallies organized and attended by massive throngs of Muslims here in the USA, the UK and throughout the Middle East and Indonesia, I will continue to agree with you and in fact suggest that a stronger word than "most" would be appropriate.

I would be willing to concede that much and you make a good point. Still, I think Brown just jumped on the first statistic that looked good, called it a victory and left it at that. This will be very pleasing to the EU, whom he seems to admire greatly.

I thought Al Sadr should have been taken out at the start and the Mahdi Army disarmed and dissolved. There can be no cohesion, no national unity in Iraq as long as these fringe groups are allowed to terrorize and impose their wills on Iraqi citizens. The current Iraqi leadership is abysmal and lacks the courage and the will to utilize the Iraqi troops to bring these militants into compliance. I think Iraqi citizens are standing up in some places because they see an ally in Petraeus and someone who will root out the evil entities so they can live their lives in peace. This is what they want from their own leadership but are being short-changed. American taxpayers are footing the bill and the American leadership needs to turn the heat up to "scorching" on the Iraqi leadership. They have diddled and fiddled in their pusillanimous cocoons of comfort long enough. It is time for them to step up and exhibit some courage and leadership.

A good measure of any culture can be framed by how it treats it's women. Those cultures which treat women worse than animals, as Islam does, are rotten at the core and are not worth resuscitating.  They contribute nothing of value to the world, only pain and suffering.  Others, such as the West, which recognizes the obvious fact that Woman is the Crown of all Creation, the Light of the Universe, and is God's Finest Work are cultures that will thrive and bring humanity to greater and greater heights.

And I say this as a lady-adoring male stoat  :-)

Winston Churchill

A great quote, and possibly the hundred-billionth reason why Sir Winston was one of the greatest men of the past century.

Too bad there are those in his own country who apparently don't think so.

Churchill dropped from England's history syllabus ( pandering to a P.C. agenda)

Agreed on all counts, and well-stated. By pointing out some of the deficiencies in the posted article(s), I didn't mean to imply that PM Brown has been stellar in all respects....he's a Socialist at heart, despite some of his excellent and strong statements of the past.

Brown hails Bush's war (Great Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer delivers glowing endorsement)

PM hails Bush's leadership (Mr Brown stunned critics by THANKING President Bush)

Great Britain Brown seeks to mend damage done by minister's 'anti-US speech'

Great Britain Brown £20bn nuke pledge (Promises massive new nuke arsenal, upgrade)

Gordon Brown's Tory appeal ignites poll fever (incl.direct pledge to Conservatives)

Gordon Brown I love the USA (wants to make ties even stronger)

Hopefully the law-abiding Iraqi people will also put pressure on their new Government, but they have been beaten into the ground for decades by the previous regime and so I wonder if they know how to do so anymore. Living year after year in a terrified fear for your and your family's lives is no good for a person's mental health.

I think with new found political clout and freedoms there will be a slow end to this sort of barbaric attack on women. And that the more brutal acts that occur like this, the quicker that change will come.

The Brit army doesn’t seem to be much better these days.

I think it is time to point the surge south to Basra and send the Marines in.

Thank You Brits! When you left Basra did you close the door?

Connect the dots you liberal rag. If the Black Watch was still in Basra, this would NOT be happening, but who knew, right? DUH?

Myopic Prime Minister Brown's fault.

Under Tony Blair, none of this would be happening.

Islam is a death cult. Want to see their heads spin around and go bug nutty, just tell them as a Catholic/Christian/Jew/Druid/Hindu...you and they are worshiping the same God, it’s just that God preaches love of all, even Stinky Muslims, not hate.

I did this in Manhattan, the effect was to have my life threatened for blaspheme, I told him to go for it, which resulted in much sreaming and threats by them, gathered quite a crowd, the NYPD officer told them to move along... explained he did not want to debate them about his direction and that ONE more word would result in them being guests of the City for 48 hours.

The British people that allow wickedly extreme political correctness in their home country are turning over southern Iraq to “the religon of peace” (surrender in Basara).

How far they have fallen. Unbelievable.
