ASUSTEK wants to release an eco-friendly laptop made out of bamboo.
The Asus Eco Book has a case made out of laminated bamboo strips. Since there is a lot of bamboo in the world and it grows fast it makes it an ideal renewable resource for making PCs out of, thinks Asustek. The processing does mean a few toxins get into the mix, but generally bamboo makes for an eco-friendly alternative.
An early version has been shown to hacks at Reuters and engineers are checking to see if the bamboo can take the heat. Asustek has made a leather computer before, but this is the first time that it has had a go at making one out of a plant.
The downside to a laptop made out of bamboo is that it could be eaten by pandas...

The bamboo does look nice, but I’d have to be careful not to mistake it for my cutting board.

Re: one button trackpad
Perhaps they are ripping off Apple’s multitouch trackpad.

Just don’t leave it laying around the kitchen, the cook might use it for a chopping block.

Re: one button trackpad -- Perhaps they are ripping off Apples multitouch trackpad. Yeah, good thought. I know my MacBook's trackpad gets the 2-finger-equals-right-click constantly. I switch between Mac, Win, and Linux constantly, and without a right-button I go nuts. I don't always have an external mouse handy...
If Asus is doing the multi-touch, that's cool with me. When I sit down at somebody else's Window box, and 2-finger tap (which of course does nothing) I get annoyed now... ;-)

*** Just another case of ECO-craziness... ***
Quite the contrary - it's for show, and must cost 8 to 10 times as much as a quality molded plastic housing.
It's for the rich-folks ....................... FRegards

Why not? It’s the case that’s bamboo - not the chips.
