The Interstate Route 35 Corridor from Laredo, Texas, through Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Wichita, Kansas, to Kansas City, Kansas/ Missouri, to Des Moines, Iowa, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Duluth, Minnesota, including I-29 between Kansas City and the Canadian border and the connection from Wichita, Kansas, to Sioux City, Iowa, which includes I-135 from Wichita, Kansas to Salina, Kansas, United States Route 81 from Salina, Kansas, to Norfolk, Nebraska, Nebraska State Route 35 from Norfolk, Nebraska, to South Sioux City, Nebraska, and the connection to I-29 in Sioux City, Iowa.
There's also the "CANAMEX Corridor," number 26:

Technically I-35 doesn’t run all the way to Canada, but there are other major roads from Duluth to the border.

There is no freeway from McAllen to Corpus Christy. You have to travel almost 300 miles north from the border before you travel a freeway. Interstate 83 runs east and west. It is 8 lane in most places.
The highways need an upgrade from the taxpayer not foreign corporations. The nice thing about traveling Texas 2 lane highways is that people pull over onto the shoulder of the road and let people pass. No other state is like this.

It’s very interesting. I guess the thing I don’t understand is how they intend to manage to maintain order. As we’re seeing in Britain and now France, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a civil society devoid of any common values or sense of belonging to anything.

Not really. The North Shore of Lake Superior is more or less a dead end. There isn't much of anything in Canada above it. The biggest road north from Duluth is Hwy 61 along the coast of the Lake. It's a narrow, winding two-laner. Nobody would pick it for heavy traffic if there was an alternative.
The core of Canada is the interlake region of Ontario. That's where most of the people and industry are. Few people will ship anything from Toronto to Guadalajara by going through Duluth.
Depends on who your “they” is. Some theys don’t really care about maintaining order outside their own very limited physical circle. The rest of us can go hang.

You apparently didn't read the FHWA planning document for Corridor 18. US-281 from McAllen will be converted to Interstate 69 Central.
In the Lower Rio Grande Valley, the Corridor shall- ... include United States Route 281 from the Rio Grande River to Interstate Route 37 and then to Victoria, Texas, via United States Route 59; [I-69 Central] ...
