Huckabee, like Reagan, wouldn't be an 'easy kill'

So is Mike Huckabee an "easy kill" for the Democrats? And are the Republicans the distinct underdogs, no matter whom they nominate for the presidency? Maybe. After all, in public opinion surveys, the critical "right track/wrong track" question shows negative feelings predominating by a 2-to-1 or even 3-to-1 margin. That's bad news for the incumbent party, in terms of holding the White House. But some Democrats maintain that the former Arkansas governor, in particular, has a "glass jaw." Hence the headline in Tuesday's Drudge Report: "Dems Hold Fire on Huckabee; See 'Easy Kill' In General Election."...

Huckabee, unlike Reagan, is a liberal who covers his open borders and big government philosphy with a veneer of religion. He would be an easy target.

Huck clearly hasn’t shown himself to be in the class of Reagan, Nixon or Eisenhower, but early Bush was viewed as an easy win by the Dems.

We've learned since then to trust our instincts. We don't need another George Bush, and we won't vote for one.

No you missed the point entirely, Bush & the Republicans despite what they ran on have been spending worse than Liberals and haven’t been governing as Fiscal Conservatives, thus they got their asses handed to them in 2006. Fiscal Conservatism didn’t lose, it wasn’t even an option.

Your history is off also, in 1994 the Contract with America, 9 of the 10 provisions were aimed at the Fiscal Conservatives/small governor crowd (the 10th, #4, was just a token common sense thing about adoption) and we won big.

A decade later, the Republicans have abandoned their fiscal side and have paid the price. Putting forth Hucknanny as the nominee will only further the disaster.

Hello? Early, the Dems were SAYING how easy Bush would be to beat. With Huckabee they’re SILENT. See the difference?

When analyzing, ya gotta learn to reverse everything the enemy says and does.

Yes, the MSM is totally behind him. And he will be an easy kill. I do not like him at all.

If Huckabee wins the nomination, he will lose the election — not because of Democrats, but because of all the hateful Republicans.

Peggy Noonan’s political instincts began to fail her in 04, and its getting worse as time progresses.

2 things.

My point was simply that Fiscal Conservatism hasn’t won recently. I made no commentary to suggest that it was ever an option, and indeed pointed out that Bush’s platform was decisively NOT fiscally conservative.

This discussion, and especially my posts, have been about Presidential politics, not Congressional.

I guess you missed the Drudge headline. Plus, the Hillary-Obama dynamic is diverting attention from attacking republicans temporarily.

I pray you are right, but at the end of the day I know we’re going to be put in the position of chosing the lesser of two evils.

Stem cell ban lost because of money. Illegal immigration is a socon winner, but will skew the popular vote because the NE is all for the open border. Law & order is another winner, which rules the Huck out.
Anti-infanticide is another socon winner almost everywhere. Even NJ voters wouldn’t spend tax money for embryonic stem-cell experimentation.

Illegal immigration is not just a Socon issue, but yes it is another reason Hucknanny would be a disaster.

Anti-infanticide is another socon winner almost everywhere. Even NJ voters wouldn’t spend tax money for embryonic stem-cell experimentation.

Actually that proves my point. In Missouri stem cells were fought as a moral issue, and it passed. In New Jersey it was fought as a fiscal issue and despite the fact the state trends ultra liberal it failed.

I saw the Drudge headline yesterday. You’ve had over 24 hours to analyze this correctly and apparently have failed.

Uh huh, but we have a Democrat controlled Congress, and their approval ratings are lower than Bush's ever were.

Huckabee’s a sitting duck for the Clintons’ Arkansas Dirt Digging Committee. That’s one of the main reasons the Democrat Propaganda Machine (i.e. the “Mainstream Newsmedia”) is pushing him.
