Mother, Boyfriend Charged in Toddler's Death (blunt force trauma)

A mother now stands accused in connection with the death of her two-year-old son and her boyfriend faces a count of homicide.

Lillian Torres is charged with involuntary manslaughter for doing nothing to prevent her two-year-old son's death.

Emmanuel Gonzalez died Sunday morning. Luzerne County District Attorney David Lupas described the child's death as one of the worst child abuse cases he's ever seen.

Lupas charged Lillian Torres, 19, Emmanuel Gonzalez's mother, with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with her son's death. Lupas said Torres allowed the abuse to happen and ignored her duty as a mother to protect her child from a number of beatings by her live-in boyfriend, Alexander Garcia.

Garcia had been charged with aggravated assault, pending the child's autopsy. Today he was charged with criminal homicide.

"Why would I hurt my baby? I loved my baby," Torres said as she was led into the hearing Wednesday.

"Had the mother done something, had she tried to stop this abuser from hurting her little boy she may have saved her life," said Assistant District Attorney Jackie Carroll.

Authorities said the abuse took place at the couple's apartment on West Diamond Avenue in Hazleton over a period of days. On Sunday Torres called 911 but it was too late. The boy died at the hospital.

The district attorney said Emmanuel died of blunt force trauma. He suffered a cut liver, rib and arm fractures and had more than 100 bruises over his body.

Torres and Garcia are locked up in the Luzerne County jail. Garcia is being held without bail. Torres' bail is set at $500,000.

May they both rot in hell, then deport them?

just heartwrenching to read this. I know God has a place for little babies and children that die young. It is the only thing that gives me any sort of solace in these cases. Just devastating. I hope neither of these people ever has the opportunity to hurt another child ever again. Unfortunately this is usually not the case. It sickens.

It is my understanding that they are already in America. Hard to deport them back here.

The boyfriend is most likely deportable: http://www.standardspeaker.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6397&Itemid=2

Absolute scum. Hopefully, the boyfriend will get the death penalty. If not, at least life in prison with little protection from the other inmates.

The mother who let it happen deserves to be sterilized, at the very minimum.

I experienced this situation myself. I was right out of training when a mother & her "boyfriend" brought a newborn in to the ER that had been found unresponsive in her crib. I worked for an hour on this baby & I cried when I told the couple that the baby was dead. Months later I read in the newspaper that this baby had been suffocated by the boyfriend.

This is the sucky of part of life.

Ditto. An 18 month old who was a shaken baby. The boyfriend did it. And others around me were so moved by the mother’s decision to donate his organs. How wonderful she was.

If she was so wonderful why did she let her studmuffin kill her baby?

On second thought, I agree. Beating a two year-old to death is unimaginable brutality to me.

She was only 19 she was only a baby herself! Honestly how smart were you people at 19?

I was really dumb. My daughter "Morgan" is 19 now. I pray that would not stand by and let her baby be murdered.

Lillian Torres.

someone (EDUCATION?) should warn young girls that pre-school age children, particularly boys, are SIXTY TIMES more in danger of abuse from de facto 'fathers' than children of the same age who live only with their mother or with both natural parents.

{ Need to fry them. }

I disagree. They should be placed in general population in a prison in Texas. Then their lives would be a living hell.

God takes them before they feel any pain. Lets just have faith in that. It is the most sickening thing in the world. An animal wouldn’t even do this. This deserves the death penalty.
