Home-schoolers rally to Huckabee
LA Times ^ | December 12, 2007 | Seema Mehta and Stephanie Simon

Huckabee's campaign won't talk much about the home-schooling contingent, which is largely made up of conservative Christians. The staff is weary -- and wary -- of stories that make it seem as though their candidate, an ordained Southern Baptist preacher, relies exclusively on votes and volunteers from the religious right.

"All I've heard the last week is pastors, pastors, pastors, evangelicals, evangelicals, evangelicals," said Eric Woolson, who runs the Iowa campaign.

But the buzz in political circles is that a quarter of Huckabee's Iowa volunteers are home-schoolers. "It might even be higher than that," said Danny Carroll, a campaign co-chairman for the state.

Huckabee, always ready with a quip, explained the phenomenon this way: "They're very smart people. They know a good candidate when they see one."

About 9,000 of Iowa's students are home-educated. Nationwide, the number is 2 million and rising steadily, according to Michael P. Ferris, who runs the national home-schooling association. Home-schoolers are distributed fairly evenly among the states. Though an increasing number are ethnic or racial minorities, the majority of families are evangelical Christians.

........................

"People appreciate that I recognize that ultimately, education is a decision for moms and dads, not governments to make," Huckabee said at a news conference this week.

His faith also resonates with conservative Christian home-schoolers, who often use texts that dispute evolution and teach the Book of Genesis. Campaigning last month, Huckabee called for public school students to learn the biblical creation story as well as evolution.

"I want schools to be honest and say, 'There are many points of view. Here's the evidence, dig through and see what you think,' " he said. "You'd be surprised. Students aren't going to fall on their face and say, 'Oh no! I've been indoctrinated into religious thought!' "

There’s a sucker born every minute!!!

A Duncan Hunter supporter exposes the pro-public-education-monopoly Huckabee...

http://dhgrassrevolt.wordpress.com/2007/12/06/dear-hslda-i-told-you-so-new-hampshire-nea-anti-homeschool-organization-endorses-huckabee/

A few weeks ago, I sent you a letter and published an open letter saying that Mike Huckabee goes against several of the HSLDA’s beliefs, and panders to teachers unions. Well today, interestingly enough, Mike Huckabee was endorsed by an association that said this about homeschooling:

* “…home schooling programs cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience.”
* “…if parental preference home schooling study occurs, students enrolled must meet all state requirements. Instruction should be by persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure agency, and a curriculum approved by the state department of education should be used.”

According to the NEA, homeschooling “can’t” work, and if it’s permitted, it should be a mirror image of the public schools.

(This came from my article ‘Mike Huckabee the Friend of Homeschoolers? Available here: http://dhgrassrevolt.wordpress.com/2007/11/01/mike-huckabee-the-friend-of-homeschoolers/ )

(You can read my original letter to the HSLDA here: http://dhgrassrevolt.wordpress.com/2007/11/17/open-letter-to-dr-michael-farris-and-the-home-school-legal-defense-association/ )

What organization is this? The New Hampshire Chapter of the NEA (the National Education Association)

We homeschool our oldest, and we’re both churchgoers, and there’s no way in hell either of us are voting for the Huckster.

Same here. I’ve homeschooled all mine, and I can’t believe homeschoolers are that naive. Huckabee’s endorsed by the NEA, for goodness sake!

Really. Good observation, JC.

Perhaps the principal reason why, aside from Huckster's relentless tax-raising and would-be subsidisation of illegal aliens, that citizens (as opposed to 'Rats) should give this dildo the heave-ho.

One ''populist'' from Hope, Arkansas should be enough for the entire history of our nation.

I homeschool my nephew, we don’t go to church (though we are Christian) and there is no way in hell I’m voting for Huckabee, either!

Gosh, it seems like the LA Times is telling us that the Huckster is our man. Oh hail the LA Times for opening our eyes and letting us know who we shall vote for. If the LA Times says he’s a Christian and is supported by Christians and is the choice of the right-wing of the Republican party, well, that’s good enough for me! I’m votin’ for the Huckster! Sing it LA Times!

We homeschool two of our boys, everyday is a day of worship for us and I would never vote for Huckabee to be President of the United States.

If this snake oil salesman gets the nomination, the fact that he actively supported illegal importation of illegal aliens and never once held Tyson Farms accountable for openl create sex trafficking centers for workers will be the least of Republican worries.

This guy is bad. Really bad. Throw in the woodshed bad.
