TOLEDO (AP) — Republican state representative Bob Latta has been elected to fill a vacant congressional seat in northwest Ohio.

The Associated Press called the race for Latta just before 9 p.m. With 65 percent of precincts reporting, Latta had 56 percent of the vote, compared to 44 percent for Democratic candidate Robin Weirauch.

Latta will replace the late Paul Gillmor, who died in September from a fall at his Washington apartment. Latta’s father, Delbert, held the conservative and traditionally Republican 5th district seat from 1959 until 1989.

The 51-year-old Latta won the GOP nomination November 6th following a bruising primary campaign with state Senator Steve Buehrer.

Hopefully the mod keeps this story in breaking news (or the other one just posted 5 or 10 minutes ago). It’s an important win, especially after appx. 40% of Republicans voted AGAINST Bob Taft(R) not too long ago.

Latta’s opponent pretty much agreed with Hillary on everything: give driver’s licenses to illegals, abortion on demand, spend taxpayer money on anything she chooses, etc.

I don’t know much of anything about him, but congrats to Latta on the win! Sounds like the public isn’t too fond of Democrats’ ideas and plans in Ohio! Let’s hope this holds true through the next year!

The GOP also won Va-01. I don’t know what the official count of dem vs. GOP congress critters is. The bad news is that the RNC and NRCC is bankrupt and had to spend big $ in these two heavily GOP districts. Thy better find a ton of candidates that can sel fund.

Good news. Seems like a heavily Republican district, but good news nonetheless.

Both those districts were R so these are holds. The Dems had some hopes in the Ohio race but it wasn’t close.

This race and the one in Virginia today is a good start. LTC Allen West is retired from the Army and is running for Congress in Florida. He was the Col who interrogated that terrrist in Iraq and got the information to stop an attack on his troops in 2003. The Army brought charges against him and he was forced to retire. His website is allennwestforcongress.com He could use a few donations.

. . . especially since the DEMOCRATS thought they could ‘steal’ this seat:

GOP TRIES TO AVOID UNPLEASANT SURPRISE IN OHIO
By Stuart Rothenberg

The reliably Republican nature of Ohio’s 5th district would seem to make it an unlikely target for Democrats, but a target it is in Tuesday’s special election.

And while political operatives from both parties scramble to downplay expectations, there is more than enough evidence to conclude that the race to fill the seat of the late Rep. Paul Gillmor (R) is going down to the wire.

What AMERICA needs is FRED THOMPSON to lead a 2nd Republican Revolution and bring House and Senate seats with him. It is possible if we elect the right candidate to run against the DemocRATS.
