COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Mike Huckabee, under fire for some of his immigration stands while governor of Arkansas, picked up an endorsement in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from the ultimate illegal immigration opponent: Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, the group that has roamed the border for the last several years operating effectively as an independent border patrol.
President Bush called the group "vigilantes" two years ago. But Huckabee seemed eager to announce the endorsement, as it came on a day when former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney started running an ad that slams Huckabee for backing a provision that would have allowed the children of illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition in Arkansas.
"Frankly, Jim I've got to tell you there were times in the early days of the Minutemen I thought what are these guys doing, what are they about," Huckabee said. "I confess I owe you an apology." He said of Gilchrist, "nobody can question his commitment to his country."

Note to self, never be in a foxhole with the immigration lobby of FR, they will backstab you in a minute.
Will this oughta scuttle your plans. You can always send those Huckabee kneepads back for a refund.
Robertson endorsed Rudy. I suspect this is as much of a head-scratcher.
Well, this thread will be fun to watch.
You might also want to peak into the other two started before it.
Which ones, got a link?
Dane-o1, you would drop the Huckster in an instant if you thought for one second that his invasion conversion was genuine.

That’s it. I’m done with this country!
I swear, I am surrounded by three hundred million of the dumbest fools in the world. I mean, come on, this is the same guy who patrolled the border in an effort to bring awareness to the illegal invasion of this country and yet he’s eager to just ignore Mr. Open Borders’ past record and just take him at his face for what he says now. Talk is cheap, Mr. Gilchrist, and if you’re willing to sell out to an open-borders fascist, then you sir, are no Minuteman. You, sir, are a turncoat and a fraud, and when the Republic dies at the hands of the illegal invasion you, sir, who turned a blind eye to the quisling we call Huckabee, will have blood on your hands.
I give up...
Many thanks!
Can you make this post play the twilight zone theme song when we open it?
Called it wrong how ? If Huckster hoodwinks primary voters who the aid of the media and the non-attacks by the rodents (that is, until AFTER he gets the nomination), he’ll still lose in a landslide to Hillary.
Oh, and Gilchrist, you pondscum, you’re a damnable sellout !
“If Huck gets it, FR and even the ex Freepers will have called it all wrong.”
Not ALL Freepers will have called it wrong.
He is the Democrat candidate for the Republican nomination. Next to Huck, Hillary looks experienced in foreign affairs.
He will never, ever, win.
From his latest move, I'll have to agree with her.
Maybe a Hoffa could give him his next endorsement and that will surely mean that we should all overlook his scary record as governor. Not.
Not sure about Gilchrist now.....
DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE 'EASY KILL' IN GENERAL ELECTION

Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.
The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party's nomination.
The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.
Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the "glass jaw -- and they're just waiting to break it."
In the last three weeks since Huckabee's surge kicked in, the DNC hasn't released a single press release criticizing his rising candidacy.
The last DNC press release critical of Huckabee appeared back on March 2nd.
[DNC Press Release Attack Summary:
Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) 37% (99 press releases)
Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) 28% (74)
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) 24% (64)
Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) 8% (20)
Governor Mike Huckabee 2% (4)]
In fact, as the story broke over the weekend that Huckabee said he wanted to isolate AIDS patients back in 1992, the DNC ignored the opportunity to slam the candidate from the left.
"He'll easily be their McGovern, an easy kill," mocked one senior Democrat operative Tuesday morning from Washington.
"His letting out murderers because they shout 'Jesus', his wanting to put 300,000 AIDS patients and Magic Johnson into isolation, ain't even scratching the surface of what we've got on him."
The discipline the Democrats have shown in not engaging Huckabee has earned the praise of one former Republican Party official:
"The Democrats are doing a much better job restraining themselves than the GOP did in 2003 when Howard Dean looked like he was on the brink of winning the nomination."
A close friend to Huckabee explains: "Look, Mike is Hillary Clinton's worst nightmare. They should be squirming."
