A Houston, Texas woman says she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR coworkers in Baghdad, and the company and the U.S. government are covering up the incident.

Thanks for the sane comment friend. I was disgusted as well. It wouldn't be FR without a certain percentage of clueless, knee-jerk reactions from the Hannity-type dim bulbs. My wife works for KBR in Iraq and you can bet I will run this girl's story by someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
This seems pretty fishy. I guess Hillary will want to stick her nose in it now.
From the website of the victims nonprofit foundation.
(1)The Jamie Leigh Foundation became a legal non- profit organization. As a result of all the trials and tribulations I have had to go through, I decided to turn such a negative event into using my personal experience to help others. I founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping United States citizens and legal residents who become victims of sexual harassment or violence while working either at home or abroad for American contractors, corporations, or government entities.
(2)July 22, 2005- I arrived in Dubai and stayed at the Sharjah Rotana Hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, I was issued room #1303. When I went up to my room I discovered a man asleep in one of the double beds. I quickly went up to the receptionist desk and insisted they change my hotel room. I was placed in a room by myself after the complaint.
(3)July 25, 2005- I arrived in Greenzone, Baghdad via an armored hard car. Upon arrival I discovered that I was housed in a predominately all male barracks. I never even saw one female located in the same barracks.
(4)July 26, 2005 US/ July 27 Baghdad- I sent several e-mails to management to ask to be moved into a container because I was experiencing cat calls even when I was walking through the barrack to get to the restroom. I received the response that I would be fine if I go to the spa.” There was no spa in Greenzone, Baghdad . I started socializing with some Halliburton/ KBR employees, including approximately four or so firefighters. One of these men prepared me a drink and joked that there were no rooffies in it, and handed it to me. After having a couple sips, I passed out. I was drugged.
(5)my breast implants were severely disfigured. (I found out later that my attackers tore my pectoral muscles due to the brutality of the attack).
(6)August 18-2007- I optioned my story to be written for a screenplay. The screenplay is currently in development and is being written by Tom Whitus.
(7)September 28, 2007- I was filmed on 20/20 to bring awareness to my foundation to help victims have a place of refuge by going to The Jamie Leigh Foundation. I also made a public statement about the trials and tribulations I have gone through by trying to get a day in criminal court. I told Bryan Ross about our jurisdictional loopholes in America ‘s justice system.
Now let’s look at the board of directors for this nonprofit orginization.

In 2006, Todd ventured out on his own, and now runs the Kelly Law Firm in Houston, Texas.
Any of you Freepers know how to obtain a copy of the foundations financial reports. I find it quite interesting that Jamie her husband her mother and the attorney who is representing her all sit on the board. Are they compensated for their work with the foundation. If they pay themselves enough there will be nothing left for the huge number of American women raped over there while employed by the evil KBR. This is a 501 C3 nonprofit.

There are plenty of young civilians working over there. Nothing odd about that at all.
The jackal-like posts on this thread are disgusting. Faced with plain facts like a Republican congressman’s intervention, the State Department rescuing the girl from a container prison, and KBR trying to force her into arbitration, she’s being called a whore, a Democrat plot, etc.
This is what happens when you exempt people from legal accountability, which is exactly what the contractors in Iraq have been granted; exemption both US civil, US military, and Iraqi laws. Worse, Halliburton has apparently been able to largely suppress the news and shelter the perpetrators from criminal prosecution, and is trying to prevent her from exposing them in the civil court system. If you think that supporting Halliburton graft and special favors is patriotic you’re a rube.
If you think your political “cause” (killing ragheads) justifies cover ups of horrible crimes simply because they distract from “the cause”, you need to have your head examined and read about the history of movements right and left that abandoned all moral principles in pursuit of their agendas.
I actually thought that her journal was consistant with the story told in her court documents. Here is the link to her journal - http://www.jamiesfoundation.org/Jamie.htm. Please let me know what inconsistancies you saw.
Was your wife ever assigned to live and sleep in a male barracks? It doesn’t sound like it, yet this girl was. I’m not sure why.
It's not my place to approve or disapprove, nor am I disdainful. I'm surveying the charges with an eye to the situation and (again) mindful of the age of the victim. Survey the numbers of 20 something military females in the zone of combat and see how many of them have suffered similar fates. Then, look at the early stages of the war. Not even our female POWs were raped. Kelly Lynch wasn't. I'll bet the Iraqi males have an even more misogynistic view of women than you seem to feel that I hold. The situation is what it is. I make no apologies for my views.
That’s because soldiers, even Iraqi ones, can be held legally accountable to their respective military justice systems. These mercenaries can do whatever they want and evidently receive corporate protection.
No she wasn’t. This happened two years ago so perhaps the increased awareness/training was in response to this very incident.
I don’t think it has anything to do Halliburton. People have a right to be skeptical. And yes, people are going to believe what they want to believe.
There are some oddities in the story and the burden of proof in any case, whether it be Paula Jones or the Duke Lax case, is on the individual making the charge.
Maybe so. I’m still scratching my head over that, though. Doesn’t make sense. Thanks for the reply.
The burden has always been on the accuser in American jurisprudence. Why should it be different in this case?
KBR’s reaction is typical of any company because of “deep pockets”. That doesn’t mean it happened, it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
That's not the reason why. First of all, the Iraqi army and it's pre-war leadership (Hussein and SONS) were known for simply dragging young girls off the streets and raping them. I doubt very much if any Iraqi would face judgment, especially if the victim were an American.
As far as the American military, I suggest you look at the sexual assault records for the various training schools and intake centers around THIS country. The rate of sexual battery is staggering! The victimization goes up the chain of command on both the officers and senior NCO's. Right up to the Sergeant Major of the entire US Army! The reason those women get attacked in basic training or at other schools is that the males haven't psychologically bonded with them yet so they don't see them as comrades to protect in combat. Whereas in the theatre of operations everybody's LIFE depends on this bond. But back in boot camp? The women are meat on the hoof for trainers and trainees alike. To me a rapist is a rapist. He should be taken out in the woods and shot. Immediately, upon proof of guilt beyond a victims mere assertion. Oh by the way, let it be known that I said that even a prostitute can be raped. All it takes is for her to say "NO" once and any further actions constitute rape. I'm also not saying this was the situation in this case.
Strange how her website glances over her accusation that she was previously sexually harassed in HOUSTON before opting to go to Iraq.

4. Below, based upon that investigation I identify persons whose testimony may be
of significance in this lawsuit:
a) Eric Her was Jones’s supervisor when she worked in the IT department at
KBR in Houston. Jones alleges that he sexually harassed her during that period. His testimony
will be significant in confirming or refuting that allegation.
b) Frederick Heard was a KBR employee to whom Jones claims she reported
Iler’s actions. His testimony may be significant in confirming or refuting Jones’s allegations
about Her and indicating the action taken in response to them.
c) John Bishop was an operations manager over Her during the time of the
alleged harassment. His testimony may be significant in confirming or refuting Jones’s
allegations about Her.
Why would she leave that out?
I don’t know the facts of this. I owe nothing to KBR, Halliburton or anyone else associated with this.
My first impression is that something isn’t right with this. The Foundation website looks like a 2-bit, do-it-yourself site. Her Board of Directors? What a laugh. They already have a marketing director.
They give her a room at the hotel and there is a man in her bed????
She gets assinged to the men’s barracks?????
Then, she gets gang raped 2 days later?????
She is locked in a trailer with no food or phone????
Pardon me while I take this phone call from Amelia Earhardt.
Please report back after you do. It sounds like she could provide some much-needed insight.
The account in your post and the complaint says it was a transfer motivated by sexual harassment. The account on her blog only indicates promotion and volunteer action.
There’s been reports from female soldiers about harassment, rape, etc. I’m well aware of hoaxes and I respect skepticism, but I think some are delusional about everyone over there being perfect little boyscouts.
Excellent post.
The exemption from legal liability is a major mistake in this war. They guys are being paid very very well. Have stolen money/goods, overbilled, etc. The Dems might exaggerate the issue or just exploit it for political gain, but there’s a legit problem going on there and ignoring it or denying it isn’t to our advantage.
