COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday.
A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.
...
Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church.
"She probably saved over a hundred lives," Boyd said of the guard, whom he said is not a law enforcement officer and used her personal weapon.
...
"Hundreds of lives were saved yesterday because of the plan that was put in place," said Boyd, who put the number of people on the church campus at the time as 7,000.

Do you happen to know if any or all of those states allow individual churches to explicitly permit carrying on their grounds? Seems to me there would be a serious infringement on religious freedom if the state prohibited a church from allowing people to do on its grounds what they are allowed to do in most other locations. I can't imagine a challenge to such a no-opt-out prohibition would survive in court. Maybe a requirement to post prominently that the church DOES allow carry, since the state law would cause visitors to assume otherwise in the absence of such notice, but not an outright prohibition.
And perhaps a trip to the optometrist. :)
i had forgotten my sidearm. sad that i need to carry heat to go to the mall.
And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.
The perp lives at home, so his address is the same as the father's. I gave the address so people could search for info on the perp, not the father.
Furthermore, while the home address of the perp is all over the internet, the phone number is not. And I didn't attempt to find that. And every doctor I ever knew does not have his home phone # published, so he's likely safe from calls from any Freepers.
I Agree 100 %
Roger that. Sure glad I got the three-dot sights! Even a colonel can line up three blurry dots.
Colonel, USAFR
Sounds good....my ankle rig is a small S&W 317 .22 snub that a rigger made for me that holds an older style box of 50 spare stingers for 58 rounds there as backup and I pack a Glock 19 now stuffed w/ Corbon 115+P’s. The mags have +2 bases. Primary mag in the 19 is for the 19 and the spares are for a 17/24 that fit the 19. Figure if I have to reload..... I want too RELOAD. A Glock 18 is a safe queen yet 3 of her 32 round stick mags are in the briefcase.
The Cheyenne Mountain Command Complex is fairly close nearby, just outside Fort Carson.
She could be or have been one of the personnel stationed at one of the facilities there. A couple of USAF females in particular come to mind....
You are MY hero!
That's not what the parable is about, and you know it.
IIRC, GA allows for explicit permission.
Can make for an awkward situation, though, considering how polarized the issue is.
You were in significantly more danger just driving to the mall.
Bumping-
He’ll respect her after she shoots him in the head.
Briefly.
I’m sure her identity will be revealed at some point. Thanks for the photos. Great shots! (pun intended)
Good point....as civilians now .....if we HAVE to reload we should be headed to a rifle or egress to safer diggs ASAP !
Although she was indeed a parishioner she was also a part of the security force for the church and normaly guarded the pastor ... she was a volunter with the security force and a hero in that capacity.
“Like many other words and phrases in our country, hero is losing some of its meaning by excessive usage.”
Seems like a very courageous thing that she did. Hero seems like it fits to me whether she was paid, volunteered, man or woman.
I think the enthusiam of the thread reflects the unlikely source of the news: CNN.
