At this time of year as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, let me share with you what Romney believes about the Savior. Lot's of bad things are said about the LDS faith, most of it innacurate or out of context. Here is a brief statement of the words of the apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This was stated at the turn of the millennium in 2000, but is worth repeating in light of all the Mitt Romney scuttlebutt as of late. Merry Christmas to all and may the peace Christ fill your homes this season.

Sugar coating lDS doesn’t change the fact that it is not Christian. The Bible was rewritten because it was “flawed” according to Mormons. One of those “flaws” was polygamy. Even though the New Testament is CLEAR on one woman for one man for marriage, the founder of this cult insisted on polygamy that is still practiced today by some. Other LDS churches stopped in when the U.S. Supreme Court deemed polygamy UNCHRISTIAN and made it against the law.

The Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Covenant are more important than the “flawed” Bible in the Mormon religion. Trying to whitewash these facts is ridiculous.

BTW, people aren’t turning away from Mitt because of his “religion” - they don’t like his LIBERAL leanings and flip-flops. If he wants to make himself into a “victim” because he wants to be a Mormon - so be it! He id NOT addressing the real reasons people don’t want him as their next President. No sympathy for a liberal trying to buy the election here ... don’t want Mitt as my next President.

I always smile when I see the non-Hebrew word "Jehovah." It is a concoction dating from the 16th Century, caused by people ignorant of scribal notations in the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Scriptures. The "Name" is unpronouncable in modern Hebrew, and the scribal notes (which are called "kerev kativ") are vowel notations added between the 6th and 10th Century to tell the reader that they should not attempt to pronouce the Name as it is written, but instead to say aloud the Hebrew word for "L-rd." Igorance not only led people to say the word out loud, they completely misread the letters in the Name, which are only four, a Yod, a Hay, a Vav, and a Hay (and without the vowels, the pronunciation is lost). There are no letters that make up the nonsensical "Jehovah." Just another dubious part of many English translations, and obviously the "Book of Mormon."

Of course, all anyone had to do was ask a Jewish sofer [scribe], they could have told them right away that there is no such name as "Jehovah" - nor is there any way to pronouce such a word in Hebrew with the four letters supplied in the Name.

In the modern world, He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, ushering in the long-promised “dispensation of the fulness of times”

It sounds just like any other Christian manifesto until you get to this part, the fly in the ointment. This is "doctrine of demons" stuff.

I believe that the Mormons believe all that, and so much more but I won’t hold that “more” against Mitt as I vote for him.

As a baptized, fundamentalist Christian I reject ‘Mormonism’ as anti-biblical and thus, heretical. However, I admire Mitt Romney for his well-crafted speech centering on the long American history of embracing ‘religious’ values as a major part of our culture. I’m a Thompson supporter but should Romney end up winning the GOP presidential nomination, I could vote for him because I don’t believe that simply voting for a political candidate signals an endorsement of his religion. It may to some, but not to me. I separate politics from religion. I look at the candidate’s values, as reflected in their political positions, and make a judgment on that basis. I assumed most people did. Apparently, my assumption was erroneous.

Mitt Romney’s church may think the bible was ‘flawed’ and foolishly rely on the babbling of some long-dead charlatan (Joseph Smith) for their ‘spiritual’ direction but I fail to see how that impacts his candidacy in any meaningful way, short of sheer prejudice. Romney’s Mormon religion is a small point and making it a major one, as some seem to be doing, is ridiculous. Next November, we’re electing a president, not a church Elder or Minister.

Let's not forget that He was the brother of Satan

and

God had sexual relations with Mary to conceive Christ.

Just two other minor details missing from the above that the Mormon Church teaches.

LDS say that I will burn in hell because I fail to worship Joe Smith.

That does it for me.

They left out the parts where Jesus and Satan were brothers and where you and I and everyone else could become gods. I could go on but why. Anyone that reads can find this stuff.

Everything went well until you got to Joseph Smith. That just about ends it as far as true Christianity goes. History proves that Smith was not a prophet and you know what God does to false prophets.

“...the Only Begotten Son in the flesh...”

I’ve never gotten into an LDS thread before, but I have a question. This statement is true, but misleading, from what I have read. Does not LDS Doctrines and Covenants describe Elohim’s other “spirit” children, including Lucifer (called Perdition), making him a brother of Jesus?

That, if true, seems to mark a huge difference between orthodox Christianity and LDS beliefs. How do LDS members interpret/explain this?

It clearly sounds to me that Mormons are Christians although some of their teachings are a little odd.

At any rate, Christian or not, Mormons have set an example of personal and group integrity, morality, and strong family values which are an asset to America. And THAT is all that matters to me.

I would vote for a Jewish conservative or a Buddhist or Hindu conservative for President who held those values and personally, although Romney is not my first choice on purely political issues, I’m getting sick and tired of hearing from so-called “Christians” that Mormons are demons and we shouldn’t support him because he is a Mormon.

They probably wouldn’t support a conservative Catholic. Maybe they should get their hoods and sheets back from the dry cleaners for a cross-burning rally somewhere - like in the Aleutians.

He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice.

THE?

We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary.

Oh well; there goes... "It is FINISHED!"

We declare in words of solemnity that His priesthood and His Church have been restored upon the earth—

“built upon the foundation of apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone” (Ephesians 2:20).

RESTORED??

What did ... leave out?  (Anything PRECIOUS?)

KJv states:

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him.

in worship?  Adding MORE stuff to and changing the KJV again?

 -- King James Romans 14:11-12

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Written where?

KJV Isaiah 45:22-25
 22.  Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
 23.  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
 24.  Surely, shall one say, In the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

Why would anyone post words of their leaders, if what they say are NOT the equivalent of SCRIPTURE??

And then, even post stuff that is ALMOST what REAL Scripture says?

Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts.

This part just speaks to my heart each time I read it.
Of Him the Prophet also declared: “And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—

“That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:22–24).
