National Guard Medic to Represent Utah at Miss America Pageant
.
.
.
Sgt. Jill Stevens of the Utah National Guard in her Soldiers magazine cover shot.
Miss Utah Jill Stevens will have a combat boot up on the competition next month when she dons her pageant gown in Las Vegas.
Stevens, a contestant in the 2008 Miss America pageant, is also a sergeant in the Utah National Guard's 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment.
But touting her slogan "Lock and Load," it's clear she's not your average beauty contestant. In fact, it wasn't until she was recruited for the Miss Southern Utah University pageant where she studied nursing that she even thought of entering a beauty contest.

WOW! Wonderful!
Class and a fine sense of humor to the end.
She’s still a winner in my book.
Thanks very much for the update :-)

Miss Utah certainly had lots of class.
I am not surprised that she was voted “America’s Favorite” - and was added to the 15 contestants that were selected by the judges.
My daughter (recently graduated, commissioned as 2Lt in Army Reserve) also noticed that she showed a certain sense of class by sticking to a 1-piece bathing suit, while the other 15 were in the 2 piece bikinis.
And of course - when the pushups were being done, none of the other contestants who joined in could either do them as correctly, or could match the number she was doing!!!!

I am not surprised that she was voted Americas Favorite - and was added to the 15 contestants that were selected by the judges. I was really rooting for her. I haven't watch a Miss America pageant since probably the 1970's, but my wife and daughter like to watch it, and they had it on last night. I actually sat down and watched for a while, at least until Miss Utah was eliminated. The pageant judges didn't see it the way Americans saw it.

She is Mormon and Id vote for her. I don't think the Soldiers article mentioned that. I read it at work (which is on an Army base, plenty of them laying around there).
I could care less about her religion, and not much about her beauty. (She's a bit thin for my tastes anyway). About her service, that I care about.
I do think having her in the pageant will be good PR for the Army, the Guard and the military in general.

That post was made to two women who are mormon. These two women and I are quite familiar with each other.
It was simply a ping to them.
Miss Utah is awesome. It’s too bad she didn’t win, but she is a WINNER.
