I saw that Coca-Cola is promoting the movie [<a href="http://zenit.org/article-21008?l=english">What Every Parent Should Know About "The Golden Compass"</a>], and I wrote to them to express my feelings about it -- including mentioning that the villains are called "The Magisterium" in the movie.
Here is the response I got: "We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
"The Golden Compass movie is a story about friendship, love, loyalty, tolerance, courage and responsibility. This movie also provides an opportunity for Coca-Cola to help raise awareness about climate change and the perilous state of the polar bear.
"We do not believe that this fantasy movie is an attack on any religion. We would never support a film that intentionally antagonized or condemned any faith."
If they receive more letters about this, it's possible it may accomplish something.
I’m glad you mentioned “Red October.” I think I’ll get the DVD for myself for Christmas :-).
I'm fully prepared to believed that people working in marketing and/or public relations for Coca-cola are so dippy they don't recognize the anti-Christian message. They're probably worried about Global Warming, too.
Seals eat fish. I like a white zinfandel with fish.
I’m not big on white zin.
Give me a riesling anyday with fish. Have a fantastic weekend!
Hope you will, too.
Strawman argument. It's not one's faith that is threatened; but if a movie comes out that insults your family, or someone you love, that movie is going to be in your cross-hairs as a target to be disparaged.
I'm sure you agree.
That being said. From the early reviews it sounds like this movie is similar to the tree that fell in the forest with no one around to hear...
It’s from the Houston Press... that I would expect them to say.
Hi Weegee.
RS
Where’s the one that was photoshopped with the “Help us John Kerry!” sign?
Maybe it needs to be changed to “Help us Algore!”

That’s probably not worship. It’s more like discipleship.
>> If this is representative of the mentality of KO management, I say invest in Pepsico.
Drink Pepsi.
Darn, I really love diet coke with lime. I may have to switch to pepsi. Naa.
THE worlds polar bear population is on the increase despite global warming, which scientists had believed was pushing the animal towards extinction.
According to new research, the numbers of the giant predator have grown by between 15 and 25 per cent over the last decade.
Some authorities on Arctic wildlife even claim that hunting, and not global warming, has been the real cause of the decrease in polar bear numbers in areas where the species is in decline.
A leading Canadian authority on polar bears, Mitch Taylor, said: “Were seeing an increase in bears thats really unprecedented, and in places where were seeing a decrease in the population its from hunting, not from climate change.”
Mr Taylor estimates that during the past decade, the Canadian polar bear population has increased by 25 per cent - from 12,000 to 15,000 bears.
He even suggests that global warming could actually be good for the bears, and warns that the ever-increasing proximity of the animals to local communities could mean that a cull will be required sooner rather that later if bear numbers are to be kept under control.
In the northern territories, where temperatures have risen an average of four degrees since 1950, wildlife experts such as Mr Taylor say the bears have never been healthier or more plentiful.
The findings fly directly in the face of recent warnings from the scientific community on the demise of the species, with the Canadian World Wildlife Fund currently speculating that the last polar bear could vanish from the earth within 100 years....
A new survey of the number of polar bears in Canada's eastern Arctic suggests that the population
is thriving, not declining, because of mankind's interference in the environment.

uh? A different "point of view" is it? OK. I guess Islam is a 'different point of view' too. Not quite the same but nonetheless each is able to kill in a way. Islam is more direct in it's hate and death dealing, but to reject the very notion of a God is also death. Death of the soul. It will kill this country if allowed to grow. And believe me, this movie is just another step in that direction. You need only go back 30/40 years or so and look at the movies being made then and look at the ones being made today to see what is happening. The movies being made today are for the most part junk with a POV that is anti-american, anti-God and pro-socialist/secular. Just MHO.
~~ AGW ping~~
SHUT UP AND MAKE COCA-COLA.
Exactly. I’m supposed to be mad at Coca Cola because they support a movie that was written by an atheist? I guess I should just stop eating and drinking altogether, then, since every food and drink company advertises in at least some realm of Hollyweird. I have better things to do with my time.
So is that going to be Coca-Cola’s new mantra? Killing God for the Polar Bears?
