British Xmas card mocks Polish pope
06.12.2007
Poles in the UK protest against a Christmas card which features John Paul II and George W. Bush.
The deceased John Paul II is lying on a catafalque. George Bush is standing over him. The speech bubble next to his face says: "What happened to Santa?". This Christmas card is selling like hot cakes in Britain, causing outrage amongst the Polish community.
Poles have already informed they would organise street protests.
"It's appalling. Using the image of the deceased Holy Father is a scandal. Muslims protested at the cartoons deriding Muhammad. Why should offending Christians go disregarded?", says Tomasz Giza, who has lived in London for 5 years, quoted by "Dziennik".
The case has been discussed in Polish Radio London 24, with hundreds of listeners expressing their outrage on the phone. It was then that an idea to organise street protests was conceived.
"Retailers should be banned from selling the postcards. Even if the deceased person were not the pope, it would still be grossly disrespectful. I mean, it is a funeral photo, after all", says Karolina Stolecka, working in one of London hotels, quoted by "Dziennik".
Mimaw,no,the average Brit is NOT anti-american, in fact it tis the opposite.
Do not be fooled by the sizeable group that does espouse such feeling. It is simply that they are heard loudest because they take any chance to be heard,so they give a skewed picture of what 60 millions Britons feel.
And the average British public has a great affection for the armed forces. No, the average British public certainly does not disrespect/hate the military.Again, the minority get heard more than they should.
Hope your nephew and his unit is ok,btw.
I must admit to a tiny snicker of laughter myself. Tried to contain myself, as I know it is tasteless, but it slipped out in spite of myself. Slapping my face as punishment.....
Agreed. At the height of our outrage recently at the "Anti-Christian" message promoted by the movie "The Golden Compass", we gathered together, and in a fit of anger, decided not to go out and see a movie and perhaps watch a DVD or play dominoes instead.
Draw your own conclusions. : )
Thank you and please except my apologizes. Your right it’s pretty much the same in this country, a campaign by the press to enforce their left wing ideology.
