Wouldn't you have to be a worker there...for OSHA laws to apply?

Read the link at #13. OSHA does not directly ban guns. It just considers it an OSHA safety violation if the business owner fails to do everything he can to ban guns in his business environment

It’s about as stupid as those “Nuclear Free Zones” like North Korea or Iran (if they could) or Russia won’t send a nuke to that zone because of a sign? This shows how really stupid and ignorant Liberals are .....

Disgusted BTT. The mall I patronize has no such nonsense posted and I’d be willing to bet I wasn’t the only shopper with a little friend behind his belt last evening. It isn’t paranoia - this sort of thing draws copycats.

I don’t understand. Does this mean that the shootings actually took place somewhere else?

After all, on this island of sanity in a gun-mad country, the signs say ‘No Guns’!

when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

Is this due to legislation or company policy though? I don’t know of a single mall anywhere that allows guns to be carried inside it, even where there are no laws forbidding such.

In Texas, a business has to post signs outside its premises stating that guns are banned. If there aren't any signs, it can be assumed that one has the right to carry a concealed weapon inside.

Unless you wear a gun strapped to your hip, if it concealed, how is the mall going to know?

Omaha shooting took place at a gun-free mall. Signs forbidding guns are posted at all the mall entrances.

The gun free malls need to be taught a lesson. A class action suit needs to brought against them. They deny your right to protect yourself and don't provide protection for you, then someone should bring a class action lawsuit. It's the way the ACLU, commies, and anti corporate lawyers attack the free market. It they can do it, so shouldn.t the second amendment folks. Look at the huge amounts of money won against tobacco and silicon boob makers.

I agree, so-called gun free zones are nothing more than an open invitation to those who want to kill a lot of people in a short period of time. But let’s get past whether it was done in a gun-free zone or not. Or if he used a scary looking rifle or grampa’s double-barreled 12 gauge.

Gun-free zones, “assault weapon” bans, waiting periods, etc...they’re all just incremental steps in the march toward a socialist ideal of an unarmed populace. If it were possible to eliminate one of their “solutions” they’ll step in with something else (.50 cal rifles? Not for you California!). And they’re effective at it because they sow confusion and FUD amongst the ignorant, who think that an SKS or an AK-clone is an assault rifle, and assault rifles scare them so nobody should own one so that they can feel safe.

We need to find a way to get this nation’s collective head out of its butt, and out of the mind set that the general population needs to lose freedom because that freedom was abused by an extremely small percentage of the population. There are way too many sheep in our country. What we need is a nation of MEN and WOMEN, not sheep.

Stepping down now...

7.66 SKS(yes, 7.66) and Fox says an AK-47 with SkS ammo

This is the result when the uninformed reporting on that which they are ignorant of.

I've heard SKS from a number of sources. The SKS uses the same caliber cartridge as the AK and it's variants.

BTW, this ignorance shows best when it's applied to otherwise common knowledge, but it's present in nearly EVERY media story you read.

School Shooting Reveals the Need for Bigger Gun-Free Zone Signs

One day after the deadliest shooting rampage in American history, many are left wondering why it happened and what can be done to prevent it from happening again.

Certainly, more thorough background checks would reveal whether a prospective gun owner had gone on any wild murder-suicide sprees in the past. Mandatory creative writing classes for all firearm purchases would also be a way to determine if someone has an unhealthy obsession with violence and gore, or is simply applying for a job at CBS.

Whether you’re in favor of such sensible gun control laws, or a mind-numbed minion of Chuck Heston, everyone can at least agree that Gun-Free Zones as they currently exist don’t quite work. Although Virginia Tech was a proud “Gun-Free Zone”, firearms still somehow found their way onto the campus. Obviously the so-called “gunman” wasn’t aware that he had entered such a zone, or else he would have thought twice about gunning down 33 innocents before shooting himself in the face. Bigger, bolder “Gun-Free Zone” signs would be harder to ignore, but renaming the entire school “Gun-Free Zone Tech” would send a clear message to any suicidal maniacs that bringing guns to school will NOT be tolerated, and that slaughtering scores of your classmates could result in expulsion and possibly even the forfeiture of all your credits. To discourage individuals from cleverly standing just outside the Gun-Free Zone and firing into the campus, the zone’s boundaries should also be expanded to encompass all 50 states, and as rigorously enforced as gun control laws currently on the books.

The concept of Gun-Free Zones is a noble one, and with a little revamping it can be far more effective. 33 out of the 34 people that died in Virginia Tech’s Gun Free Zone were actually following the rules. There’s no reason to believe that expanding the program nationally won’t provide the same results.

I didn’t catch the Prager call. Hopefully it will replay somewhere on the web later. A friend of mine was listening and it sounded to him like Dennis was pretty wound up....

One of you has said that the Security company at the Omaha mall was not allowed to carry firearms. I just wanted to make it clear that nowhere in John Lott’s excellent story today does he mention that—only that the Mall or certain stores INSIDE the Mall can decide whether customers can carry...His story does NOT even mention the Security company—whatever its name is.

In fact, that in itself is an interesting question...Why hasn’t the MNM mentioned the security company at the Mall? Or, is there NO SECURITY COMPANY AT THIS MALL? If they can’t carry weapons, they aren’t “a security company”, IMHO. WHat do they use for weapons...CELLPHONES??
