Romney takes leap of faith with religion speech

(CNN) -- White House hopeful Mitt Romney said religious liberty "is fundamental to America's greatness," in his Thursday address on faith in America.

..."There are some who may feel that religion is not a matter to be seriously considered in the context of the weighty threats that face us. If so, they are at odds with the nation's founders," Romney said.

"Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone," he said.

..."If I am fortunate to become your president, I will serve no one religion, no one group, no one cause, and no one interest. A president must serve only the common cause of the people of the United States," he said.

This speech does nothing to change the fact that he is pro-abortion,pro-homosexual marriage, and a socialist when it comes to health care.

Stop lying about his positions. He's explicity pro-life, has done more to fight sodomite marriage than any other Republican candidate, and introduced health care system in MA that's based on PRIVATE insurance. Using PRIVATE insurance is the very opposite of socialist.

He is a great American.

Isn’t the main difference between a cult and a religion (other than longevity and acceptance) the fact that in a cult you cannot leave without repurcussions? Can Mormons leave without repurcussions? Perhaps they can.

I know a number of former Mormons. It is not easy and the pressure to return to their cult is very strong. Families disown them and on many occasions, the spouse of a person leaving the church is encouraged to get a divorce.

Mormons ar taught that when the church leaders have spoken, the decision has been made and they are not allowed to question their judgment. Those are the actions of a cult.

"A handful of posters on FR does not the general public make."

No one made that claim. FR is however, a microcosm of the America beyond.

"Romney's religion is used as a "victim" defense just as often, by the way, by other FR posters -- in many cases, the first time religion is brought up at all on a thread is a Romney supporter calling someone "anti-Mormon" for saying anything negative about Romney."

More lies. I have never ONCE seen a Romney supporter cry anti-mormon to a poster articulating a difference with Romney on the issues as a reason NOT to vote for him, nor is anyone using it to cry the proverbial "victim." Romney and Mormons, HAVE been challenged about and persecuted for their faith since it's inception, in a way and to a degree that no other Americans are currently challenged about their faith. It's a fact, and a fact that all Romney supporters quickly come to realize.

Romney never even insinuated that anyone who doesn't vote for him is a bigot. Your interpretation is a LIE. You are LYING to yourself and everyone else.

How sad - can you not believe that Christ is the way, the truth and the life, and the way back to our Heavenly Father, and still believe that those who haven’t had the opportunity to learn about Him can have discourse with our Heavenly Father? God loves us, all of us, and He doesn’t neglect those who haven’t been taught about Jesus Christ. And you’re so wrong on what “Mormons” believe about the Savior. Of course He is a God.

Healthcare needs to be addressed, like it or not.
It will be a big campaign issue next year.
Btw, Obama is the one with the most socialist plan for that.
I still put my faith in the Republican candidate.

>>“A president must serve only the common cause of the people of the United States.”<<

A believer serves God first - 1 Cor 10:31 - “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

**Disclaimer - I do not equate Mormonism with Christianity, I am speaking in general terms regarding any public official who professes belief**

A president is employed by the people of the country, in the same way that you are employed by your employer. You and I both have a duty to our employer, but I as a believer my chief duty is to God. If my employer asks me to do something that is contrary to my belief, I refuse to do so.

One who has firm beliefs does not put them on a shelf when he punches in. Joseph, Daniel, Esther were all believers in positions of authority in pagan lands. They did not compromise their beliefs in order to serve “the common cause of the nation”, nor should anyone else.

And what exactly does that have to do with electing the President of The United States of America?

I wonder: Aren't the taxpayers of Massachusetts paying the premiums for this publicly financed "private" insurance?
Also, wasn't Romney in charge during "Fistgate?"
Just some questions that come to mind.

Why would a Mormon Bishop and his wife leave the church, unless they learned that Mormonism is based on a fraud? What would be their motivation, knowing that they’d be disowned by their families and friends?

Rush is a great American. His comments today on Romney, his speech, and the REAL and UNPRECEDENTED persecution Mitt has encountered because of his faith, were excellent.

You’ve not seen the youtube videos of Romney supporting homosexual marriage and abortion?

He used to be pro-choice. He saw the light and now admits he was wrong. Haven't you ever changed your mind about something?

As to homosexual marriage, he was always opposed to it. I defy you to find a single instance in which he supported it.

And I defy you to find a singe GOP candidate for president who has done more to fight gay marriage than Romney.

I know because I was living in Massachussets when the state supreme court forced it on the commonwealth. Romney was on the front lines, at every major rally, giving speech after speech against gay marriage. He testified to Congress about it. He fought for a constitutional amendment to define marriage as exclusively between a man and woman, and he even took the state legislature to court in order to force them to vote on the amendment.

Romney is the only Republican candidate that the Log Cabin Republicans have launched attack ads against. There’s a reason for that. Romney is against “gay marriage” and they know it.

Time for Republicans and conservatives to unite behind ONE Republican candidate, and that’s Mitt. I think Iowa heard the message loud and clear today! : )
