ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Two days after naming its mascot "PorkChop," the Philadelphia Phillies' new Triple-A affiliate abruptly dropped the moniker after receiving complaints from Hispanics that it was offensive.
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, whose mascot is a large, furry pig, had selected PorkChop from more than 7,300 fan submissions. The team, which begins play in 2008, announced Monday that the mascot will be named "Ferrous" instead.
General Manager Kurt Landes said he heard from several Hispanics who said PorkChop was derogatory.

Talk about instant caving to PC pressure.
How much longer before major grocery stores are sued because they sell a product named with this derogatory word?
Only if it’s offensive to white Christians will it be allowed.
Actually, I think Ferrous is cuter.

They 86’ed Pork Chop but kept the name Iron Pigs? Might as well name the mascot Muhammed.

If he thought hearing it from Hispanics was bad, imagine that from Muslims!
Maybe the complainants here actually are Portuguese, but the gnoofball manager thinks anyone of a nationality that uses a Romance language is “Hispanic.”

Can anyone else see the real problem with this bromide? With the "professional victim" hucksters we have out there today, if you try hard enough, almost everyone can be offended by something. So I guess organized society better not do anything, out of fear of offending someone. Going to work everyday? Why, that offends professional slackers. Better not do any work. Drive a car? Oh, my God, you're destroying the Earth! The Luddites are gravely offended. Breathing the air? Geez, what gives you that right over some animal who might be better off if they could breath your air? The PETA folks are offended. You exist? Why, that offends me, we'd better do away with you. If not offending someone is your moral code, not much else for you to do but lay down and die.
To those who complained: Tough hop.
