Some, like the Catholic League, are saying Golden Compass is a $182 million movie project with an anti-religious message for kids
Note: Nicole Kidman is a Catholic and claims she doesn't think it to be anti-Christian...

Nah, I’m just sparing you some verses regarding Kidman’s duties in marriage with a spouse who strayed from the faith or adopted a different faith. Don’t wanna hijack the thread.
Oh, her. I noticed her when my husband watched the Bond movie, although I was reading or sewing. Very pretty.
I wonder if Pullman had a “conversion” to manic atheism between his earlier writing and this series. His other books were well done, of a reasonable length, and didn’t emphasize religion, to speak of. I even remember one that included very positive portrayals of Jewish people.
Good makeup, cool acessories!
My 10 year old daughter has done the same. The “tweeners” aren’t going for this one.
She married Tom Cruise, forcryinoutloud. That tells you all you need to know.
It is a shame. She was nice to look at, before she had all that work done...
“You have a pretty strong reaction to see someone elses opinion expressed at a website as making them a busy body or interfering with your life.”
Reality check; this leads to the Christian right protesting the movie, blocking movie theaters. It’s art, Junior, lets not have it go that far.
Is that Sam Elliot in the balloon? I’ll bet he chews the scenery!
Pullman is a good writer and even the first two books of this triology are well written, far better than the Harry Potter series. His characterisations are interesting and he can tell a complex, fun and well-written story with great details. I read somewhere that his grandfather was a minister and they had a good relationship. Go figure. He has a website where I believe he addresses the issue. I read it somewhere.
I’ve never been all that crazy for Kidman’s looks (sure she’s nice looking), but yes after the work is awful. And it’s amazing how many women look worse after plastic surgery. Maybe 1 in 5 actually look better, and yet it’s done all the time, almost expected in the industry.
Yep, that’s Sam Elliot.
Easy. Then don’t join them. I don’t think that we’ll see that, but even if we do, in America we have that right. It happens a lot in our society. You know, free speech and all that.
Curious whether anybody has actually read the books. Or seen the movie. If you have seen the movie, how is it outside of the religious objections?
Why the “Junior?” You feel that you are a superior person? Is your prophetic ability to translate discussion of a movie at Free Republic into protests one of the evidences of your superiority? And your view of art is . . . that we shouldn’t look at it as important or worth commenting on or protesting? And someone else having a different opinion than yours, as you said in the prior post, interferes with your life?
Harrumph.
“Kidman missed the equally yoked verse for sure prior to her marriage to the incarnate symbol of Scientology, Tom Cruise so I wouldnt look to her for deep spiritual insight without having more reasons to think of her as devout.”
I never thought of women who repeatedly get nekkid in public for money as being particularly devout.
