Iran expels Canadian ambassador from Tehran
December 3, 2007
Canada's ambassador to Iran has been expelled from Tehran, Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier said in a news release Monday evening.
The expulsion is believed to have stemmed from the two countries not being able to come to an agreement over an exchange of ambassador candidates, he said.
"Canada regrets the decision of the Government of Iran to order our ambassador to leave Tehran, which is entirely unjustifiable," Bernier said in the release.
"We stand behind our ambassador, who has performed his diplomatic duties with professionalism and dedication."
The Canadian embassy in Iran will be headed by Canada's chargé d'affaires in the meantime. Both countries will continue to maintain embassies in the respective capitals and conduct normal operations, he said.
"As always, Canada remains prepared to receive an Iranian ambassador provided a suitable candidate is presented," he said.
IOW - one that isn't IRGC or a terrorist
For the ping list.
pong
Don't let any ambassadorial candidate from Iran be accepted to Canada if the Islamofascist POS candidate is on US Home Security's "No Fly List."
CAIR CANADA IS ENRAGED!LOL
New Kazemi investigation
Relations between the two countries have been strained since a Canadian-Iranian journalist died in police custody in Iran in 2003.
Ms Kazemi died from head injuries while in Iranian police custody
Iran’s Supreme Court has ordered a new investigation into the death of photojournalist Zahra Kazemi, who died from blows to the head received during more than three days of interrogation at Evin prison in Tehran.
She had been detained without charge in June 2003 while taking photographs outside Evin prison in the north of the Iranian capital.
An intelligence ministry agent, Mohammad Reza Aghdam Ahmadi, was acquitted of a charge of “semi-intentional murder” in 2004.
In November, the UN passed a Canadian-sponsored resolution condemning Iran’s “systematic violations of human rights”.
They should have done this when a Canadian citizen was kidnapped by the regime, tortured, raped and murdered in jail.
I think that was before Harper’s time
Yup
well aint that lovely
Wow, I didn't realize that. Please post a link.
Harper won't wag that dog at the NSA. Can't blame him.
Still, whoever was PM.
That way he’ll be out of harm’s way when we bomb Tehran.
That makes sense. How do you know he's on the no fly list?
How do you know he is not?LOL
( The only reason Canada would refuse his credentials as an ambassador would be that he didn't pass security vetting, or if he had the bird flu, or the bubonic plague.)
Last week I visited the Homeland Security website. I spent a few hours there. I was quite impressed with their security regime, and the first thing that happens if someone triggers a security flag in their system ( eg money transfer or donation to a terrorist organization, BAWANGO!, on to that No Fly list they go!)
The only way to get off the list is to plead mistaken Identity, and its not reviewable by court action.
The No Fly list has become a litmus test for all security risks, and the only way anyone finds out if they are on it or not, is to go to an airport and try to get a boarding pass for a flight landing or taking of in the USA. The USA is said to have about 40 thousand on the list, Canada has 2000 or so.
The Iranians are always truing to dismantle or compromise US security, and one way to accomplish it would be to get diplomatic privileges and immunity for one of their Islamofascists who is on the no fly list. Then Islamofascist terrorist have a courier who can schmooze with CAIR. But Canada isn't playing that game.
I'd love to see a copy of that list, as much as you would.
“CAIR CANADA IS ENRAGED!”
Ah, isn’t that too bad. They’ll just have to get over it.
Canada, similar to others, is self interested. Otherwise, does not have the Will or means to do anything. Canada, should have done something far more meaningful when Kazemi, a Canadian citizen, was murdered by IR.
The rest is posturing and meaningless words.
