ARLINGTON -- Texas Rep. Ron Paul easily won a presidential poll at a Republican Party of Virginia conference here yesterday.

Paul polled 182 out of about 500 votes cast. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson finished second with 112 votes, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee finished third with 51 votes.

The straw poll was held at the 24th annual Republican Advance, generally attended by activists and grass-roots workers, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in the Washington suburbs.

This straw poll took place in heavily RAT/RINO Northern Virginia. My guess is that a bunch of them voted for Paul as a joke. This is NOT an indication of Virginia's true leanings.

The story says that Paul supporters were bussed in. Other attendees were local GOP activists and officials.

The story says that Paul supporters were bussed in.

This is why straw polls are completely worthless.

Which means 318 voted against Paul. Lot of Paulbots going to be suprised when they discover they cannot spam the voting booth.

Paul has his followers up here in PA 100 miles from where that happened.

They put Paul signs on telephone polls and even garbage cans.

I'm expecting massive voter fraud this time around.

Chavez could teach lessons about that today, I suspect.

Impressive. Ron Paul is gradually becoming unbeatable. Don’t waste your vote on the others.

This straw poll is about as relevant as used toilet paper waiting to be flushed.

The Paul candidacy is a bit of a fraud.

Most of Mr. Paul’s “supporters” don’t support the vast majority of his libertarian philosophy, and are only supporting him for the GOP nomination. Their intentions are to vote for Mrs. Clinton next November, the idea of their support for Paul now is to create trouble in the GOP political process.

Ron Paul is gradually becoming unbeatable.

Hey, he could sweep the polls if he would only get Cynthia McKinney to agree to be his running mate. I'm sure she and her supporters in all 51 states (as posted earlier) could be talked into the deal!

Well I guess that’s it. Rupaul will be our nominee and we will surrender in Iraq on Jan.20 2009!
Puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze!
The only good thing about this jerk is that he is spending dummie money. No actual thinking conservative is sending him a dime.

My granddaughter got a Ron Paul flier in her Christmas candy at the Christmas parade last night. These people are desperate.

We should circulate a memo to the Leadership of the State Republican Parties.

Our Pinellas County Party just reaped a wind fall of straw party votes. The straw poll vote cost $20 and entitled the bearer to one vote and a bar-b-que dinner. These dollars represent a 1000% increase over any past straw poll fundraising event.

These numbers represent the honest efforts of legitimate Republican candidates to bring in new participants to the primary process. These candidates conduct these efforts with the full knowledge that their participation and financial support is vital to the defeat of Democrats in November 2008.

This fundraising activity should be encouraged, and hay should be made while the sun is shining. It would be a public service of the highest esteem, if this opportunity were used to address larger than normal crowds with a message vital to the intellectual and emotional health of the body politic.

Specifically, a propaganda lie of dangerous proportions has been circulating - that corporate and intelligence community interests in the United States conspired with the President and Vice President to allow terrorists to kill thousands of innocent civilians. These conspirators then used this historic tragedy to provoke a war in the mideast. A lie of this magnitude must not be allowed to go unchallenged, even if the perpetrators of such a lie are voters in a Republican straw poll.

This is why straw polls are completely worthless.

How is it worthless? Actual people paid to vote in it.

If Fred Thompson would have won, there'd be never-ending chants of FRED!
