Rodney King was apparently shot and wounded on a San Bernardino street corner late Wednesday night before biking home to Rialto to report the incident, police said.
King, the 42-year-old man who gained national fame when his 1991 beating by Los Angeles police was caught on videotape, called Rialto police at 11:39 p.m. to report the shooting, said Sgt. Don Lewis.
He had been struck in the face and arm with a shotgun, Lewis said. King reported that the shooting occurred at 5th Street and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino, just east of the Rialto city line.
After police arrived at King's Jackson Street home, King and others inside appeared intoxicated, Lewis said, and few were cooperative in providing information.
Rialto officers contacted San Bernardino police to take over the investigation. King was then taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown this morning. The wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, Lewis said.
No further information on what caused the shooting was available. Since gaining his fame, King has had several brushes with Inland police agencies, most recently a 2005 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.

Even before King, there were the four young black men that demanded money from Bernhard Goetz on a New York subway car. Two of the four men Goetz shot continued a criminal path.
Why were the cops beating Rodney King? The politically correct answer is: Because he was black. But so were the other men in the car with him, when he was leading the police on a high-speed chase -- and none of these other black men was beaten. What was the difference?(snip)
They tried to wrestle him down but he was too big and strong for them. They fired electrified darts into him that were supposed to immobilize him, but that didn't get the job done either. Twice he got up and advanced on the cops. At that point, they had not had a chance to search him and had no way of knowing whether he was armed or not.
Arresting a huge, strong, and defiant man is something that most people have -- fortunately -- never had to do. You might think that this would make observers reluctant to second-guess whatever desperate measures were taken in this situation. But for some people, ignorance simply liberates them from the narrow confines of facts.

Four fine police officers had their lives ruined because of this bozo.
Not to mention the lives lost in the ensuing riots and the life of Reginald Denny - scarred forever.
I feel like I've gone back in time...
And a Clinton running for president!
After tonight, the Cowboys will be a little bit above the Packers due to their having laid waste to the Pack.
The way I heard it was that he pretty much became an untouchable for a while.
