Hillary Clinton is the meanest and most unlikeable person to run for President

Kerry is incredibly wealthy by marrying wealthy women, he accused US troops of all sorts of war crimes, he is visibly stupid - and he only lost by a few points. Gore, another highly unlikeable person, soaked with corruption and a long history of stupid writings, won the popular vote.

Do not count Her Thighness out!

Hucksterbee's tax hikes show that he isn't willing to do that.

He also:

* Pushed through a Democrat legislature the first, major broad based tax cuts in the state's history.

* Pushed through a Democrat legislature an $80 million tax cut package.

* Cut the state's capital gains tax by 25%.

* Established a Property Taxpayers' Bill of Rights

* Limited the increase in property taxes to 10% a year for individuals and 5% per taxing unit

* Eliminated the income tax for families below the poverty line.

* Increased the standard deductions.

* Eliminated the marriage penalty.

* Eliminated bracket creep by indexing the income taxes to inflation, thereby preventing taxpayers from moving into a higher bracket when their paychecks increase due to inflations.

* Doubled the child care tax credit.

* Eliminated capital gains tax on the sale of a home.

Huckabee has many flaws. But, one doesn't have to lie about him to point those flaws out.

I'd prefer Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter. But, between Romney, Giuliani and Huckabee, Huckabee is the most conservative and least dishonest.

“What in the current, actual positions of Mike Huckabee do you disagree with?”

Your phraseology is telling. You put “current” there because you know as well as I do that what Huckabee DID in Arkansas and what he SAYS he’ll do as President are very different. Bush 43 ran on a “no amnesty” platform, which was why he took pains to coin the new term “comprehensive immigration reform” and insist with great indignation that it wasn’t “amnesty.” It was clear to observers that Bush was pro-illegal as governor of Texas, but people bought into what he SAID instead of looking closely at his history, and got burned.

I think Huckabee will be the same way. In his heart he’s a moderate leftist. He’ll never admit it, of course, so a tax hike will be a “fee,” out of control spending will be an “investment,” handing over the country to illegal invaders will be “immigration reform,” etc.

If I believed that Huckabee means what he is saying right now, I’d have no reason to be against him. But I don’t believe him when he says to ignore what he’s done and said in the past and believe what he says now instead. His multi-year history as governor in Arkansas has made it clear where his heart really is on too many issues. He’s a social conservative who is liberal on just about everything else, and mark my words, if he gets into office he will govern as one.

You are spreading LIES about Fred Thompson. I told you on another thread that it was TOMMY Thompson, not FRED Thompson, who supported Dole’s watering down of the abortion plank in the Republican platform. I also pointed out that Fred voted for the federal Defense of Marriage Act. Both are issues of public record. You are knowingly telling LIES.

Is LYING a social conservative value as far as you are concerned? If you have reasons for not liking Fred, that’s fine, but stop purposely confusing him with others and LYING about his record.

I think Huckabee should be asked to refute his previous actions encouraging illegals into Arkansas -- and his characterization of American patriots (of all ethnic groups) as "un-Christian."

Then, we should see what he says....

A few other items should be picked, too. Maybe a national ban on smoking in "public places," for instance. I've never smoked a cigarette, but that one gives me a taste for my old corn cob pipe.

I didn’t “conveniently” forget anything. I never said religion or abortion weren’t important. I just said the other things were more important to me, including the broader notion of following the Constitution as envisioned by the great men who wrote it.

Don’t take offense, I was merely pointing out that in following the Constitution, we also would be in effect following a socially conservative policy of the others!

>> Evangelical Christians are getting behind Mike Huckabee. The truth is they are base of the Republican Party. A lot of people don't like em but no GOP presidential nominee can win next November without them. <<

I've never been "evanvelical" in my life and I support Huckabee. I've never lived in the south, never came from a rural background, never joined a Protestant congregation, and yet I'm still with Huckabee on social issues far more than Rudy the liberal, flip-flop Mitt, and "federalist" Fred.

A lot of Illinois freepers are.

So much for the idea that everyone "fears Fred". Now we know which candidate is REALLY "feared" by the powers that be.

>> Hasn’t this country had enough of the Arkansas political machine? <<

Yes. That's why Huckabee restored sanity to Arksansas when Slick Willie's right-hand man, Jim Guy Tucker, was indicted for Whitewater. Huckabee became the first GOP governor in 16 years, defeating the yellow dog Democrat Arkansas machine in a truly stunning upset that was applauded by freepers.

>> Libertarians aren't going to vote for Huckabee. <<

Must be big fans of the IRS then, since Huckabee is the only major GOP candidate to embrace the libertarian ideal of abolishing the IRS and doing away with the income tax forever.

Of course I expect the usual set of libertarians will denounce him for not wanting to legalize crack, and hence the "purist" nominee of the Libertarian Party will get the usual 0.5% of the popular vote.
