RALEIGH - North Carolina's community college system has ordered the state's 58 campuses to admit illegal immigrants, overturning a policy of letting the heavily enrolled schools set their own rules for handling undocumented applicants.
David Sullivan, the system's top lawyer, dispatched a memo this month telling the community colleges that state regulations require the schools to admit illegal immigrants who meet the schools' basic requirements of being either a high school graduate or an adult in need of skills training.
"That's just wrong," said Sen. Richard Stevens, a Cary Republican and co-chairman of the higher education committee. "I can't believe North Carolina taxpayers would be asked to pay for the education of people who are in this state illegally."

Who exactly writes these "state regulations"? If they're written and approved by the NC Legislature, then one would think that the Legislature could tweak the regulations so that this is not permitted. And they should.
Anyone who comes into the country lacking in skills should qualify as being in need of skills training. Coming next: requiring colleges to provide courses in Spanish, for illegals who can’t handle classes taught in English.

I disagree. The problem is here now and we are having to contend with it now.
If we endorse their illegal activities in this way, it only aggravates the problem and is not a viable solution. Illegals are a significant problem because the bulk of their "documentation" is purchased forgeries. As a result, how do they prove that they graduated from high school, one of the primary prerequisites to being admitted? Also, how does the college verify that the high school is accredited and that the illegal was required to meet the same (or similar) standards for graduation as his/her American counterparts?
If we "mainstream" illegals so that they won't continue to be a problem in the future, why not do the same for the criminals we have in this country that are currently behind bars? By ignoring one criminal act (or, actually, a series of criminal acts, in the case of illegals), why shouldn't we ignore the criminal acts of robbers, drug dealers, carjackers, muggers and rapists? What's the difference between the criminal acts?
If we don't draw a line in the sand to stop mainstreaming illegals, we abdicate every opportunity we have to encourage the illegals to return home by denying them access to mainstream activities and by discouraging the behavior.
Like it or lump it, if these people are going to stay here, then you must mainstream them into US society; otherwise youll have a Quebec situation.
If they are not all going to be rounded up in some kind of mass deportation (and they are not), then not helping them enter the mainstream is just shooting ourselves in the foot,
and insuring that there will a large mass of unassimilated
people for the next generation to contend with.

You mean Amnesty.
It means "you are welcome here", no need to speak English as we will provide translators. Actually, I'm not surprised with the current $leazly administration. All they know is how to tax residents and give to illegals.
Last year as I was walking into a Taco Bell (it was early December), I witnessed a group of them filling out employment applications with the help of an employee that was translating for them. They were still dressed in sandles, shorts and t-shirts with a light jacket over them. I gave them a dirty look, turned around and walked away. They are all over the place down here and nothing is being done about it.
instant access to the taxpayers pockets is not "helping" them, it's giving them an instant "right-to-welfare" mentality.
Lets remember a few things about N.C.:
1. Incoming freshman are required to pick from a list of books in which they must write an essay on. This list includes Quranic verses from Mohammed’s peaceful years.
2. The NC Supreme Court upheld a ruling in which a witness in court can swear on a Quran.
3. The newly formed and touted “for the schools” lottery has been the cause of scandal after scandal. A vast majority of the money from the proceeds of the lottery not entirely going to schools.
4. Even though every citizen in NC is charged/taxed for their motor vehicles for the repair/maintenance/upkeep of roads in that state, NC still feels it necessary to make the major north-south artery through NC a very expensive toll road. NC has some of the worse roads in the union.
5. NC, for public schools, is among the bottom ranked for education across the United States. This does not include their colleges.
6. For illegal immigrants, it is very easy to obtain a driver’s license. There have been reported cases in which these illegal immigrants have been transported to the state to get a driver’s license.
7. Jim Black (democrat) is going to jail.
What business is it, in this wealthy country, for one group of people to have to subsidize another adults education?
Have you noticed that defense weapons, medical care and education cost rise 8-10 percent a year? Wonder why? Maybe we should pump more money into them.
If they are not all going to be rounded up in some kind of mass deportation (and they are not), then not helping them enter the mainstream is just shooting ourselves in the foot, and insuring that there will a large mass of unassimilated people for the next generation to contend with.
That same rationale was used in the 1986 amnesty. It doesn't work. The USG estimated that one million would apply, but it wound up that three million applied. Here we are 21 years later with 13 to 20 million illegals. And if we legalize their status [helping them enter the mainstream], they will be able to bring in tens of millions more thru chain migration and family reunification.
What kind of message does this send to the millions of people waiting in line to get into this country legally? What kind of message does it send to those who want to get in here illegally? And what does it say about the rule of law?
We can have attrition thru enforcement. And before we do anything about those already here, we need to secure our borders, including establishing a system to track and deport visa overstays. Rewarding people who have broken our laws in multiple ways, i.e., illegal entry, ID theft, failure to pay taxes, etc. is not the way to deal with criminals.
Interesting that a board of college Utopian fuzzies have the power to overrule federal law. RICO, anyone?
QUISLING: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.
U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.
“Like it or lump it, if these people are going to stay here, then you must mainstream them into US society; otherwise youll have a Quebec situation.”
Why? It is against the law for Illegals to work in our country.
OK. I agree.
Give them all your money first.
Then get back to me and I'll see what I can do.
Unfortunately, they do, at least public colleges, and probably private ones as well.
“Illegal” is defined by the federal government, and if they pass a law that requires ALL people located in the country to be given access to college, there’s not much we can do about it other than vote out of office the people in Washington.
This is a sad truth about “illegal”, it only has meaning as the federal government determines it. For example, a state can’t pass a law punishing an employer for hiring illegals, because there is a federal law already that pre-empts state law. (So in Virginia, we are going to try to pass a law revoking business licenses instead). So if we want to punish employers, we need to petition the federal government to pass a law either doing so, or allowing states to do so.
In this case, I believe the FEDERAL law (or a judicial ruling) says that if you offer an illegal “in-state” tuition, you have to offer it to EVERY citizen of the country as well. The complaint here is that ALL attendees to community college are subsidized by the taxpayer, and allowing an illegal to attend gives them the subsidy.
The answer to that is to raise the tuition, adopt an in-state standard, and then charge the illegals the out-of-state tuition.
Almost NOBODY goes to another state’s community colleges, which is why they don’t tend to have in-state/out-of-state tuitions, I guess.
Anyway, some of that above is speculation, and some is my understanding of the current law as a non-lawyer, so consider it more of a discussion starter than the final word.
If I’m wrong, I apologize.
Having the right to everything you want....
at someone else’s expense.
Community colleges are funded in part by tax revenue.
Dear Santa,
For Christmas this year, I want you to make me into a privileged and protected minority so I can take to the streets, protest and act out every time something doesnt go my way, and scare the goverment and businesses into giving me all sorts of freebies, privileges, perks, and goodies cause theyll be afraid of being called mean and racist.
Santa, I also want to be able to go to any college I want to, with no questions asked, no documentation required, and to have translators with me at every moment to “protect” my “rights”, my “culture” and to ensure that the mean old gringos fall all overthemseves to give me whatever I demand under pain that I’ll have 5000 ACLU/La Raza/MALDEF rabble rousers out on the campus green howling and waving signs within the hour if my “legitimate” and “just” demads are not immediately met.
Oh, and I want all that plus not having to work unless I want to, and if I decide to, I get to pick the language which employers are forced to learn in order to communicate with me, or else me and my compatriots will go tell our radical community organizers and well all yowl, protest and sue via tha ACLU until we get lots and lots of money and every employer has to learn our language and respect our culture and in general bow down to us and kiss our priviledged patoots.
Oh, and Santa, if you can arrange to have our country of origin choice have real obnoxious and uppity current and former presidents tell the mean old racist Americans that our territory is wherever we are and hang our hats, that would be really cool too!
(sarcasm off)
Melinda Wiggins is executive director of Student Action with Farmworkers, which helps children of migrant agriculture laborers get into high school and college. She said barring illegal immigrants from community colleges penalizes youths who were brought to the United States as children.
“The DREAM act didn’t fly, so let’s try this gambit.”

Melinda Wiggins sounds like she is mentally defective and/or corrupt.
