Clinton Says She'd Tap Colin Powell for Foreign Policy Expertise If Elected
FOX News ^ | Nov. 27, 2007 | Staff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that if elected U.S. president she would call on former Secretary of State Colin Powell as part of a bipartisan diplomatic delegation to be sent abroad to restore America's image.

Noting Powell's foreign policy expertise, Clinton publicly offered fresh details in her plan — often described in general terms — that she says she would institute before her would-be inauguration.

Clinton has previously mentioned Powell and George H.W. Bush as potential members of that delegation during interviews, but rarely names names when speaking publicly.

But Tuesday she specifically told a group of black ministers who were endorsing her in Spartanburg, S.C., that to restore the country's reputation, she would tap the man who under President Bush led the foreign policy argument to invade Iraq in pursuit of weapons of mass destruction.

"I won't even wait until I'm inaugurated, but as soon as I'm elected I'm going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties — people like Colin Powell, for example and others — who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well, " she said smiling while making reference to her husband and former President Bill Clinton. "Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over."

Armitage created Powell. Never assume that their interests even vaguely resemble ours.

He is horrible and Bolton even writes about him in his book. And Condi is just a Colin Powell in a skirt. Both very disappointing to say the least.

You give Hillary too much credit. Of course she would drop his name like that without talking to him first.

Why these people are so obsessed with “America’s image” overseas is beyond me. Who cares what the rest of the world thinks. The most important thing is that we’ve currently got the mightiest military by far of any of the other world players.

I have one lefty loonie friend who brought up the “everybody hates us” meme once. I told her that I would worry about America’s standing in the world when people stopped risking their lives to come here. Shut her right up.

Well, pandering to the Black audience ought to make the Reverend Jackson quite satisfied.

The media didn't portray Powell as being particularly "black" during his whole tenure with the GWB administration...why would they under Clinton II? Um, nevermind...I know...

I already “dislike” hitliary with a passion, every fiber of my being...but somehow, every time I hear her speak about how she “WILL BE PRESIDENT”...I want to...well, I can’t say it aloud, but I think you all know.

This disgusting person must NEVER be President.

I don’t give Hillary credit for much but I don’t underestimate her. If there is one thing she is, its calculating. She dropped his name deliberately. There are no accidental happenings when it comes to Clintons.

Powell is not some kind of ideological Republican or, God forbid, a conservative. Powell would probably like to vindicate himself by detaching himself from Bush even further and changing teams would be a clear exit strategy for him. But if Powell hadn’t already essentially declared himself neutral at least to the Clinton camp, Powell would easily be able to nuke Hillary with an off-hand remark right now since the media is probably stalking him to get a comment.

Politically, I trust Powell less than Hillary. I know exactly what Hillary is. But Powell tries very hard to keep his loyalties from view.

This little speech was before a group of black ministers. Powell was candy.

I don't believe Powell has any inclination to get back into politics so Hillary's proposal is "air".
