Jack Thompson Faces Trial Before the Florida Bar Today (Batjack!)
GamePolitics.com ^ | November 26th, 2007

Controversial Miami attorney Jack Thompson faces the start of an ethics trial this morning which could see him disbarred.

The Florida Bar is pursuing several complaints concerning Thompson’s professional conduct in court cases against the video game industry.

As reported by GamePolitics, Thompson’s bid to block the trial failed last week when U.S. District Court Judge Adalberto Jordan dismissed his suit against the Florida Bar and Judge Dava Tunis, the referee appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to preside over the case.

Thompson’s attempt to add myself and the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) as co-defendants in that federal suit also failed.

Over the weekend, Thompson turned to the Florida Supreme Court in an apparent effort to block this morning’s trial from moving forward. In one court filing Thompson asserted that he was willing to accept a 90-day suspension of his license to practice law. The embattled attorney claimed that such an offer had been on the table, but that the Florida Bar was now seeking his permanent disbarment.

A second document appeared to outline a lawsuit against the State of Florida, which has authority over the Florida Bar. Thompson claims that the Bar’s pursuit of him is motivated by his Christian activism and is designed to silence his outspokenness.

UPDATE: GP called down to the Florida Bar this morning and learned that the entire week has been set aside to hear Thompson’s case. Following arguments, referee Judge Tunis has until December 21st to issue a ruling. Extensions are possible, however, so the end result could come even later than that date.

Jack used to FReep under many re-treads, and used to threaten to sue anyone who disagreed with him.

That is true, however, he sure did hate Janet Reno....

actually the FL application includes an extensive background check. It takes MONTHS to complete. They want to know everything about your life. it gets very complex for older applicants. It is not unusual for an older applicant to have to wait for 12 months to complete a background clearance.

You can pass the bar, and STILL have to wait for the clearance to complete.

Of course there is no protection against those who go nuts after becomeing a lawyer. (see also black robe fever)

Our proscription of murder is a moral value.

Our proscription is protecting the rights of the potential victim. I am of the belief that you have to show concrete, specific harm to to at least one individual before you can make any act illegal among adults.

The state has many legitimate functions, and they are defined in the federal and state constitutions. Anything else is a power grab, an intrusion on the rights of the people.

But if you want to go down the road of regulating morals, remember that it cuts both ways. With Hillary in power and the Democrats running Congress, their definition of what is moral will reign, and they will be able to enforce it due to the precedent set by people like you.

Straight story for you: Jack proposed an extremely violent game and offered $10,000 for the creation of it. Somebody made the game, and Jack said the offer was a joke (which it could have been, given the Jonathan Swift title of the offer).

So an online game company donated $10,000 to charity in Jack’s name. Jack actually contacted the local police and tried to have them arrested for harassment. The police of course said there is no case.

This is the kind of person we’re dealing with here. He has an extreme persecution complex, and has no problem abusing our legal system to satisfy it.

A question for you please. What would you expect to happen if you purposely uploaded gay porn into the court’s electronic docket system without permission, unsealed, and refused to apologize?

I think disbarment is getting off light, but then I may be expecting too much, and I don’t know what what it takes to get disbarred.

JT is a real POS.

I had an intense conversation with him on FR a few years ago regarding the Heath High School shootings from Dec. 1997.

He preyed on grieving families to try to make money for himself.

He tried some pity part antics on FR for a while but I’m glad to see his sorry ass outta here.

given the fungibility of hillary’s and giuliani’s morals, the net result of either one is going to be the same.

FNC had one of their beltway experts saying a third party is going to be inevitable.

Giuliani is the automatic third party candidate creator. (virtual or actual) Hillary clinton needs a Hillary Clone like Giuliani so she can run to the right and a third party to split enough of the votes.

He seemed reasonable, but it was all about him, I liked A+Bert much better, before the second bottle of cooking Sherry of course. Batjack was an ahole.

*snort* I’ll have to show this to our almost 18 yr. old son. He and his online gaming friends love to trash this guy.

Me too. I think JimRob kept reinstating him to see if he'd run headlong into a brick wall again, and he always did. Amazing thing to watch.

Jack, though - he seemed to have a genuine mean streak underneath, and sometimes not very far underneath. Just a personal impression.

methinks this may have been Jack's real problem.... I've heard it can cause resentment and envy ...

He FReepmailed me on the dead thread, the night he took the long drop, "I like to piss people off it gets them thinking."

I think he was on his second quart of MD 20/20, I kind of liked the old bastard in the same way I like my dog. He is old, mostly blind, riddled with tumors, these things make allowances.

Why do I get the feeling that you are a fan of the Westboro “Baptists” too. I know you won’t admit it here but you know it’s true.

“Why do I get the feeling that you are a fan of the Westboro “Baptists” too.”

You don’t. You’re uttering a statement you know to be false, for no better reason than malice.

“including putting hardcore gay porn in the public record without permission and without having it sealed (stored on government servers, available for everybody to view, your tax dollars pumping out gay porn). The judge didn’t like that, and he has zero remorse over doing it. “

Is it legal to manufacture, buy, sell, and possess the porn he uploaded?

If so, isn’t it rather hypocritical to castigate him for posting it while defending its legality?

No, common decency, and probably court rules, say you don't post that to a general public forum where people who are not looking for gay porn are going to see it. If I go to www.gaylovers.com (just guessing) I would expect to see that, and I wouldn't allow my kids to go there. If I'm going to www.flsd.uscourts.gov I don't expect to see such photos, and I would normally let my kids go to a site like that for research -- but for the fact that because of Jack Thompson they could be exposed to gay porn.

The strange part is that he thinks he's scored some sort of victory by putting hardcore gay porn on servers paid for by the taxpayers. The gay pornographers themselves aren't even that bad.

And he's done it more than once. He is worse than those he purports to fight against.
