WASHINGTON U.S. Sen. Trent Lotts decision to resign from office may open the doors for U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander to win an influential leadership position in the Senate.
Aides to Alexander said today that the Maryville Republican is considering running for the minority whip position currently held by Lott. The minority whip is the Senates No. 2 Republican.
Sen. Alexander is looking at all options and will be having conversations throughout the day, said his spokesman, Lee Pitts. Well be making a decision soon about what, if anything, that he plans to do.
Alexander ran for whip last year but lost to Lott by just one vote.

Right, we need to look to better men and better Republicans and better conservatives to be replacing Lott, not Lamar ... possibly Coburn, Cornyn, DeMint, Ensign, Inhofe, Sessions or Vitter.
I'd like to see Sessions replace Mitch McConnell.

I agree on all but Vitter.
Great conservative, but he needs a few years to live down the whole hooker thing.

I agree with you but it strikes me that the Rats never take time to live anything down. Still happy to see that gay caballero Lott go. Watch him get rich now. Like all our overlords.

LaMarr Alexander and whip just do not belong in the same sentence...Yes they do.
When Lamar was a governor and proposed taxing the internet I wanted to whip some sense into him.

Although I have his circa 197? campaign poster on my wall, I’m not a gung ho supporter. He doesn’t really make it in the big leagues.
My take is that he does nothing without instructions from Howard Baker’s office
