Good for Fred Thompson
National Review Online (The Corner) ^ | November 26, 2007 | Larry Kudlow

Posted on 11/26/2007 10:53:27 AM PST by eastsider

Good for Fred. Good for his excellent, broad based, tax-cut plan — including a flat-tax option and a corporate tax cut.

Good for him for snapping back at Fox’s Chris Wallace when he tried to pull a fast one by citing Fred Barnes and Charles Krauthammer as proof-pudding that Fred can’t win. Good for Fred for mentioning National Review and Investor’s Business Daily for speaking positively about his candidacy. (So, is it true that Fox is dedicating itself to Rudy?)

Good for Fred for showing fire, energy, and animation throughout the interview. It’s the same fire in the belly that I witnessed in our CNBC interview earlier this month.

Look, I have no idea whether Fred can win the GOP nomination. Frankly, I have no idea who is going to win it. And as I’ve written here before, I’m not picking sides. However, I do want a strong and determined Republican field. And I certainly think Fred has regained his footing.

I vastly prefer positive policy visions to down-in-the-mud trashing. (I know, I know, criticizing each other on the issues is a key part of politics.) But my great hope is that the Republican contenders will emphasize their key policy visions as the race heats up.

I read somewhere that Rudy’s law firm has Murdoch as a client. Anyone else got a line on this? Real Republicans don’t want this election to be a choice between two NY liberals.

So Fred’s been out front on a) illegal aliens b) taxes c) social security d) 2nd Amendment, e) foreign affairs and the WOT. He’s got reasoned, doable and principled positions. Where’s the beef from the rest of the field?

Don’t know about Murdoch as Giuliani’s client, but do know that Rupert has been pushing Hillary in the New York Post and Rudy on Fox. Talk about hedging one’s bets!

Where’s the beef from the rest of the field?

They released their policy initiatives months before Fred Thompson announced.

No joke, especially from the Dem side. Fred makes Hillbillary and Obamasama look quite vacuous. ;-)

Also VERY nice to see that he’d (among others) beat Hillary in a head-to-head matchup if the vote were today:

All in all, I’d say there’s reason for some Republican optimism at this point.

Candidates can say anything and everything as they always do. However, Fred Thompson is, unless I am very mistaken, the only one who has gone on the record with specifics as to how he would solve the major areas of concern to the American public. In those specifics he lets you know where he stands and that is worth its weight in gold. The approach of laying out your views is apparently new to the modern public who seem to react to ambiguous rhetoric as the standard for determining a candidate’s worthiness. Who wouldn't’t like to see a “John Wayne” type running for office, ready to take out any and all villains. But if truth be known, and I pray it will be, I would rather the winning candidate be a man who speaks his mind and means what he says

I’ve always considered Charles Krauthammer a smart man. Until now!

Larry Kudlow is starting to get my attention.

Dr. Krauthammer is no dummy (he was born in Montreal, Canada and is a psychiatrist, and it shows). He’s not quite conservative enough for me. Close, but no cigar.

Absolutely! Good for Fred Thompson.

This author also believes that Fred has “regained his footing”. While there are many who keep denying Fred is still very much in this race, the facts are becoming undeniable.

Please post their policy initiatives on Social Security reform so we can compare them with Fred’s.

(sound of crickets chirping...)
