They like “known” candidates like LBJ and the Bushes.

Alright...now you've done it! Got me piss_d...

Texans do like the known and proven...and she is a "known and proven"...a known and proven SKUNK in the middle of the road....

She would receive the Governorship if there were no real opposition....fro within the party.

Being a life-long Texan, I believe that the informed VOTER know she is weak and beatable.

The issue is one of divide and conquer.

All the fruitless candidates are sucking the potential for the top tier candidates to beat Giuliani.

Giuliani is defeat, he is the hillary clone.

We would not vote for hillary in the general election, there is no reason to vote for hillary in the GOP primary.

No Giuliani, NO PROBLEM.

Well this is fantastic news for a Monday morning!

When I refuse to send RNC any more $ I let them know its due to their “funds sharing with RINOS” like lott. Maybe someone is getting the message.

Trent couldn't deliver amnesty for his corporate masters--not that he didn't try.

Mornin’, Carnac. I see you were right again. Pretty good record you got there.

Sorry the seat will be up for grabs next time, but can’t say I’m sorry to see Trent Scruggs, I mean Lott, go. Hopefully, we will able to hang on to the seat.

Via Newsmax:

Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, plans to resign his seat before the end of the year, congressional and White House officials said Monday.

Lott, 66, scheduled two news conferences in Pascagoula and Jackson later in the day to reveal his plans. According to congressional and White House officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of the announcement, Lott intends to resign effective the end of the year.

No reason for Lott's resignation was given, but according to a congressional official, there is nothing amiss with Lott's health. The senator has ''other opportunities'' he plans to pursue, the official said, without elaborating. The senator is serving his fourth Senate term.

If the GOP cannot hold this seat, and I am unsure that it can, then we will be going the way of the Whigs in 2009-2010.

I am curious, you have for years made this same knee jerk hysterically negative political assessment about the GOP's future on virtually every tread.

Time after time, your doom and gloom forecast about the GOP's future turns out to be totally divorced from reality. Don't you think maybe it is past time for you to reconsider your assessment?

he sleeping RINO Warner who missed catching on to the gutting of our military by both presidents GHW Bush and Clinton and has done nothing about it afterward what a legacy for a senator to go out with. His early retirement would be welcomed also.

Mega Dittos!

Ironically, 2006 was supposed to be the demise of the Dem Party.

As long as the 2 parties work [hand-in-hand behind the scene], they will continue to co-exist for their mutual benefit.

I’m not supporting him or attacking him, just trying to explain what I think might be his motivations for leaving. He’s going to have press conferences later today and then we’ll have some ideas about what his real motivations are.

Via WorldNetDaily:

Mississippi's Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, will appoint Lott's replacement, who will serve until the 2008 elections, when voters will elect someone to serve out the balance of Lott's term, which runs through 2012. Rep. Chip Pickering of Mississippi, a former Lott aide who recently announced his retirement from the House, is widely seen as a potential successor. Pickering could not immediately be reached for comment.
