Are you going to vote in the November 2008 election no matter who wins the Republican primary?

Posted on 11/25/2007 5:29:03 PM PST by cradle of freedom

I would like to know if you are going to vote in the November 2008 election even if your candidate does not win. Will you stay home if you don't like the Republican candidate?

Another thing that I have often wondered about is whether people actually stay home when they are disheartened. News commentators often say that some voters may have decided to stay home because they were not happy with the candidates. I think that is a mistake because even if you do not like the person at the top of the ticket you should at least vote for the other candidates. Have you every actually stayed home and not gone to the polls at all because you were not happy with a candidate?

It is better to try to minimize the evil elected, rather than do nothing.

Voting FOR a baby killer, that is OK when both choices are baby killers? Voting FOR homosexuality, Voting FOR adultery...

You do what you want. I cannot abide such a choice. I think the "lesser of two evils" theme is a poor reason to vote FOR anyone, and a poor excuse for not providing a candidate we can vote FOR.

“Living in the People’s Republic of California, I don’t think it matters if I vote for the ‘pubblie or not”

I always take the tack that the more of us in CA who vote Republican, the harder the Dems have to work, siphoning off a trickle of their time/energy/money. . .

Maybe it’s wishful thinking.

either the Republicans fashion a conservative candidate or the won't win. Period!

Why do some people have so much trouble understanding that simple truth? It's so obvious and yet they persist in these pipe dreams about electing Rudy. The delusion that Rudy can get elected has the potential of spelling the end of the GOP. Why can't they see that many, many people have chosen to vote Republican for a reason and that without that reason, the party will shrink?

Nope. That said, since I'm in the People's Republic of Mexifornia I don't expect my presidential vote to mean anything.

Not some whacko like Judge Moore but a more credible one.

Glad to see that someone sees Moore the same way I do. Now, if I could just find someone else who shares my take on the grandstanding sherrif Joe from Arizona.

Yup. I'm voting for the Republican nominee, with one exception: I wont' vote for Ron Paul. If he were on the ballot, I would vote for every other Republican candidate except him.

Somehow, though, I don't think Mr. Paul will be on the ticket, so, again, my chances of voting Republican are pretty durned good.... :)

“But if you think some of us conservative are going to stand by and be treated the same way the Democrats treat the black vote, with a pat on the head and a little thank you, guess again.”

CLASSIC, LOL.

I don't live in California but I share that sentiment.

But hey, don't worry...you helped make sure a less-than-perfect Republican didn't get in!

There's "less than perfect" such as the decidedly not conservative W and then there's an unabashed Leftist like Rudy.

If you want to see how far people will go before defending their rights, just look at Europe which has become socialist. We can never let things go that far because there comes a point when we cannot get our freedom back. The socialists/Democrats tactic is to make so many people dependent on government that they will always vote Democrat. We have been suffering with this problem since Saint FDR. In our case there was still a conservative base which comes from the roots of our tradition, which the Europeans did not have. But unfortunately we have been moving too far towards socialism especially in the metropolitan areas and blue states like Massachusetts, where I live. There is such a herd mentality in this state, it is just unbelievable.

It is a very dangerous strategy to let things get too close to the edge of the cliff...one of these days we might fall off that cliff. Instead of playing “chicken” with our future, we have to use every opportunity to do damage control. “Worse is better” is always worse. We sometimes have to settle for half a loaf until we can get a full loaf.

I vote against Hillary no matter who else is running. After that I choose the best candidate. If they both really suck I may not vote. But I feel very strongly that nobody in the election from either side is worse than Hillary.

Of course, I’m not so sure how different HIllary and Rudy are...no one has explained that yet.

Well, Rudy has.

a poor excuse for not providing a candidate we can vote FOR.

It's not an excuse for not providing a real candidate...no one here would vote for Rudy in the primaries. The fact is, if Hill and Rudy get nominated, the country will go to hell. To which circle of hell is the choice...the deepest or the second-deepest. With that in mind, the rationale behind voting for RUdy would not be because he's wrong on so many moral issues, but because the alternative is even worse.

FYI though...it's not written in stone that I would vote for Rudy if HIllary is the alternative. It's still up in the air.

Well then, I think that just cleared things up. According to Giuliani’s own words, the lesser of two evils is now a moot point.

Thanks for sharing that quote....hadn’t heard it before.

Once people get dumb, they tend to stay dumb and they pass the dumbness gene on to their kids. That is what I see in Massachusetts. People here are SOOO DUMB that they have been complaining about welfare for 30 years, yet they still vote Democrat. They have been complaining about crime for 30 years, yet they still vote Democrat and they still can’t figure out that Democrats appoint liberal judges who let criminals get away with murder.
