I think this is a good thing. The wealthy leftwingers in NY SHOULD provide the leadership in reducing American greenhouse gas emissions. Afterall, they’ve got the money, and the rich should pick up the tab for this.

...the latest sign of his unseemly obeisance to over-the-top environmentalism.

I don't know about unseemly obeisance, but after the license fiasco now he embarks on this? I think the guy is certifiable!

The carbon stuff aside, that guy is freeking nuts. NYC can't even handle its own garbage or prevent raw sewage from entering the Hudson during hard rains. He should concentrate on that sort of thing first.

Get ready for another blackout.

"Under Congress' directive, the US Department of Energy created the National Interest Electric Corridor to prevent blackouts like that of '03. To maintain grid stability, the feds can overrule objections by Not In My Back Yard activists and can get power lines built - lines such as the New York Regional Interconnection, which would send juice from upstate to downstate."

“The plan’s flaw is its goal: It’s designed to boost electricity costs - ....”

Yes it will boost costs — and that will be the acid test for the whole global warming boondoggle. Most people actually seem to believe that no sacrifices would be required to meet the Kyoto requirements — or the much more draconian ones to come. Maybe switch to curly-Q light bulbs — or make their neighbour trade in his SUV for a hybrid — but, nothing that would actually cost them anything. When prices at the pump and the plug go up — expect a serious backlash.

[Since almost anyone will be able to buy allowances, brokerages like Goldman Sachs are planning to snatch them up - and sell them back to power-plant owners at huge profits once demand grows.]

You can bet Spitzer and his cronies are part of this food-chain.

We have some of the highest electric rates in the country.
Niagara Falls is 5 miles from my house, go figure.
The Huntley plant is across the river and Pataki promised them over 1 Billion in reconstruction funds.

Time to move.

NEWSWEEK: AL GORE NOW WORTH MORE THAN $100 MILLION

[Since 2000, according to published reports, the former veep has transformed himself from a public servant with around $1 million in the bank to a sparkling private consultant with a net worth estimated to be north of $100 million. He’s a senior adviser to Google, a board member at Apple and now a newly minted general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the Silicon Valley venture-capital firm that made billions investing early in Netscape, Amazon and Google.]

Liberalism in a nutshell: Increase our cost of living while doing zero to reduce carbon emissions.

Gov. Spitzer's boast last week that power plants will soon have to pay for the right to emit carbon dioxide is just the latest sign of his unseemly obeisance to over-the-top environmentalism.

The owners of the power plans should all get together and tell the govenor to go phuck himself and shut the power plant completely down. See how many minutes they'll remain offline before the Govenor comes screaming like a little beeotch stop his tax!
