Some people has asked me if we have a similar celebration in Britain, as such we do not but historically there was our Harvest Thanksgiving/Festival which is more of a religious celebration and giving thanks for the safe completion of the harvest. Many years ago farmers used to have local vicars actually bless the crop as the last lot was harvested, then followed a service and a large harvest tea to which all farm workers and their children were invited and often poorer children from the local community got invitations to the large and wealthy farms harvest celebrations.
Today it is more of a church or school service where there is a display of food and the Harvest Loaf is the centre of the display, following links are the history of our Harvest festival and how schools today celebrate it. Normally after the service the food is distributed to the local community.
Harvest Festival in the UK
A typical school celebration
Today though I joined my friends in the States and had a Thanksgiving Meal.
Melon and Black Forest ham for starter
Duck for main course
Trifle for desert

Happy Thanksgiving, snugs!!!
We are thankful for the friendship of the U.K. It is very important to us.
I have a new recipe for a two potato gratin that we had today which was easy and delicious. I wish I could do pictures the way you can do.

Your potato gratin sounds interesting. Dad loves potato like many people of his age in Britain root vegetables and in particular potato are a very big part of their daily diet.
I suspect your 2 potato recipe will have sweet potato in it which I have recently introduced dad to and he will eat it though of course he is more familiar with the normal potato.
Dad comes from the era in Britain where every meal you had potato in one form or another be it mash, roast, baked or just boiled.
