” But she’s strong and she has convictions,” Bernadette Chirac, well-known for a forceful character of her own, told the weekly Le Figaro magazine”
Yeah, so far she has escaped her “convictions” : )

Preposterous headline of the day award!
Only in the press could they think that Chirac and Hillary are on the opposite ends of the spectrum. He may be center-right as far as France is concerned, but he’s still a lefty in U.S. terms.

When Ted Nugent was asked by a french reporter about killing deer, he responded something like this:
“Deer only care about three things: Eating food, screwing, and running from those trying to kill them. Kind of like the French.” Interview over.

Let’s see—an endorsement for Hillary from the wife of a crooked self-serving, American-hating French politician who is under investigation. Wow. Hillary’s a shoo-in. /s

France’s conservatives are to the left of the Democratic Party, so this is really either feigned surprise on the part of the reporter, or actual ignorance of this state of affairs. I think it’s also partially an inclination on the part of the reporter not to look a gift horse in the mouth - why look too closely when a foreigner praises your preferred candidate?

“U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won surprise backing from the wife of former French President Jacques Chirac on Thursday, together with a pledge to join her on the campaign trail.”
The wife of a French crook endorsing another crook for President of the United States, it’s fitting.
